All are invited to a holiday celebration after Mass on Saturday, December 17. We will have pizza (red) and a salad bar (green) along with assorted Christmas cookies/sweets for dessert. This event is sponsored by our small group, but a $2 donation to cover pizza or a contribution of a salad fixing, a plate of cookies or bottle/six pack of your favorite beverage would be appreciated. Advent: Sacrament of Reconciliation and Sacrament of the Sick
The holidays can be a hectic time, but Advent invites us into a season of centered-ness as we watch and wait for the Holy One to be born in our lives. To that end, we would like to offer a few opportunities for you to connect with God and yourself.
December 10 - a communal service for the Sacrament of the Sick at 4:00 pm in the fireside room. All are welcome to be anointed for healing of mind, body or spirit.
December 17 - Frank will be available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the library across from the pastor's office at EUCC from 4:00 - 5:00 pm.
Feel free to contact one of the pastors if you would like to set up a time outside of these offerings or if you have any questions.

Winter Solstice Service
December 20, 2011
7:00 pm
Enter a circle of warmth and candlelight on the (nearly) longest night of the year as we embrace the darkness and anticipate the birth of the light. Join Sts. Clare & Francis for a simple service with cider and cookies to follow. It will be a sanctuary of peace and meditation for those who are busy with holiday preparation. If you are able to bring a plate of cookies, proclaim a reading, or help with set-up, please contact Jessica.

random sightings wisdom...reflection...insight...amusement
I possessed curiosity. I possessed awe. I possessed hope, doubt, and fear, but nothing like certainty about what I believed. When I brought this up in Bible study, the other girls looked at me as if I had just passed gas. Clearly, I was not where I was supposed to be in my walk with God. As my friend Becca once said, "The church answered all my questions while I was growing up, but they also gave me the questions I could ask."
[...] I had arrived at an understanding of faith that had far more to do with trust that with certainty. I trusted God to be God even if I could not say who God was for sure. I trusted God to sustain the world although I could not say for sure how that happened. I trusted God to hold me and those I loved, in life and in death, without giving me one shred of conclusive evidence that it was so. While this understanding had the welcome effect of changing faith from a noun to a verb for me, it was an understanding that told me how far I had strayed from the center of my old spiritual map.
