Would You Like To Start All Over?
What would it be like to become a Christian as an adult instead of as a child? What would the process of "becoming" look like for an adult?
In some Christian churches it happens in one moment of prayer. In the early church it was a process that took months (or more) in which one learned and developed and became increasingly convinced that this was the call they must heed. This ancient practice is called the "catechumenate" (pronounced:
kat-i-kyoo-muh-neyt).
We have a member of our community who has never been baptized and who has chosen to enter on that journey. I am wondering if others might like to join him on this road. It could be a way to "go over the basics" again, not just of "things to know" but basic Christian skills and experiences. It could be a way of deepening your own faith even as you assist someone who wants to explore his own.
This process would be especially appropriate, though not exclusively, for those who have never been baptized or confirmed or who have never been formally received into a Catholic church.
We'll begin in early October and finish around the end of May. Time commitments are negotiable. I'm looking more for interest; we can make the schedule work. Let me know if you are interested in walking this path, in learning and developing, and/or in assisting an interested inquirer.

Matching Challenge
for Getting the Word Out
We have a member who is willing to contribute $500 toward a publicity campaign about SCF, but who wants someone else to match it. Let me know if you are willing to match or help match this gift. I can give you more details, and you can decide if you want to support this effort. Thanks.
Your brother,
Frank

Convocations: Parish Council Listens
October 1 or October 5
Our parish family is growing and we want to be sure we keep in touch with one another as we grow.
In this convocation, Parish Council members will gather with small groups to get to know both recent and long time parish members. We want to listen to questions, issues and concerns that parish members may have, so that we can best represent all our interests as we plan for the future.
Please join us for a Parish Council Listens convocation on October 1 at 3:00 pm or on October 5 at 7:00 pm in the Fireside Room.

3rd Annual SCF Trivia Night
Mark your calendar for the 3rd Annual Sts. Clare & Francis Trivia Night! We are returning to The Heights on October 14, 2011, for a fun filled evening from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Trivia will begin at 7:00 p.m. Watch for the reservation form.
We are in need of financial contributions, attendance prizes, silent auction items and volunteers to make this a successful event. If you know someone who owns a business, please ask them to make a contribution to a great cause. All of us have favorite restaurants or shops that we frequent. The next time you visit one of your favorite places, ask them for a gift certificate. Most places really do enjoy giving back to the community.
1. If you would like to volunteer, contact Mary Ellen Kruger at mek002@hotmail.com or 314-962-0964.
2. If you have an attendance prize donation that you believe has a value of $25 or less, please contact Peggy Montgomery at catto89@hotmail.com or 314-647-0664.
3. If you have a silent auction donation that you believe has a value over $25, please contact Nancy Wamser at walksoftly6@yahoo.com or 314-394-6654.
Put October 14th on your calendar and start working on getting together a group of friends to join you.

random sightings
wisdom...reflection...insight...amusement

Philosophers may have argued about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, but materialists have always known it depends on whether they are jitterbugging or dancing cheek to cheek.
