Fair Trade Coffee
I just learned that "The Better World Shopping Guide" has included Equal Exchange, our wonderful coffee wholesale purveyor, in the "Ten Small But Beautiful List" of small companies that are true social and environmental leaders in their industries.
That same guide awarded Equal Exchange an A+ grade for its overall social responsibility! Yea, rah, we're the good guys!
Practically the same day, I read in a rather solemn and gloomy tome about globalization that the fair trade coffee movement was a hopeful sign that things are changing in small ways to improve our lopsided market system. (The other hopeful sign mentioned by this analyst, was Community Supported Agriculture).
This year, Fair Trade Coffee will again be offered for sale at
Sts. Clare and Francis to make it easy to be a social justice and fair trade supporter, as well as have delicious organic coffee and tea in your home. The wholesale order is in, and we will set up in the Gathering Space on the second weekend in September, and every 2nd Saturday or Sunday after that. See you there.

3rd Annual SCF Trivia Night
Mark your calendar for the 3rd Annual Sts. Clare & Francis Trivia Night! We are returning to The Heights on October 14, 2011, for a fun filled evening from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Trivia will begin at 7:00 p.m. Watch for the reservation form.
We are in need of financial contributions, attendance prizes, silent auction items and volunteers to make this a successful event. If you know someone who owns a business, please ask them to make a contribution to a great cause. All of us have favorite restaurants or shops that we frequent. The next time you visit one of your favorite places, ask them for a gift certificate. Most places really do enjoy giving back to the community.
1. If you would like to volunteer, contact Mary Ellen Kruger at mek002@hotmail.com or 314-962-0964.
2. If you have an attendance prize donation that you believe has a value of $25 or less, please contact Peggy Montgomery at catto89@hotmail.com or 314-647-0664.
3. If you have a silent auction donation that you believe has a value over $25, please contact Nancy Wamser at walksoftly6@yahoo.com or 314-394-6654.
Put October 14th on your calendar and start working on getting together a group of friends to join you.
