Letter from Nominating Committee

The following letter has been released to all members of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion by the Nominations Committee for the Election of the Presiding Bishop:

August 29, 2011

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

It is a sacred privilege as members of the Communion to choose our Presiding Bishop.  We, the Nominating Committee, ask for your help in this process in  the following ways.

  1. A Survey.  Please go to this link:

(http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/5KVQTJ3) to take a survey.  This survey will help us determine the kind of person you are looking for in a Presiding Bishop.  The results will be shared with the Communion.  And they will shape the interviews with any prospective candidates.  You may remember that the Constitution mandates that our committee select no more than three candidates.  (Other candidates may be nominated as "floor nominations.")  Deadline for the survey: September 30, 2011.

2. The Presiding Bishop's role in the ECC. Here are some excerpts from our cannons concerning the duties and expectations of the Presiding Bishop:

    • Canon 1. The Presiding Bishop is the official convener of the Synod, and appoints a facilitator for the Synod gatherings in consultation with the Leadership Council.
    • Canon 4. The Office of the Presiding Bishop shall be the central executive office of the Communion. The Presiding Bishop shall be elected by a two third (2/3) majority vote of an electoral college, which is comprised of all members of the two (2) houses of governance. The Presiding Bishop may be elected for a maximum of three (3) four (4) year terms, and serves as the President of the Episcopal Council.

4.1 The Presiding Bishop shall be responsible to establish an administrative body, which shall include a Chancellor, and other officers as deemed necessary in order to fulfill the duties of the Office of Presiding Bishop. The Presiding Bishop may also establish standing committees or ad hoc committees in order to further the mission of the Communion.

4.2 The Presiding Bishop shall be responsible to sign or veto all legislation, liturgical changes or intercommunion agreements. A veto may be overridden by a 2/3 majority vote of both the HOL and the HOP. When the veto is exercised the matter must be reviewed by the Episcopal Council.

4.3 The Presiding Bishop receives faith communities applying for membership into the Communion, as set forth in the Guidelines for Formation of New Faith Communities, with confirmation by the Episcopal Council.

4.4 The Presiding Bishop accepts a faith community's request for withdrawal from the Communion.

4.5 The Presiding Bishop may issue a pastoral letter with the confirmation of the Episcopal Council.

    • Canon 6.1. The Office of the Presiding Bishop will submit a proposed budget annually to the House of Laity for approval. The House of Laity then submits their approved budget to the House of Pastors for affirmation.
    • Canon 8. Intercommunion agreements with other ecclesial bodies shall be negotiated and signed by the Presiding Bishop and become effective through a vote of confirmation by both the HOP and the Episcopal Council.
    • Other duties include accepting religious orders and specialized ministries into the communion, providing faculties for clergy who function on behalf of the ECC, also granting termination of said faculties, and signing the annual budget once it is approved by the HOL and affirmed by the HOP.

3. Nominations.  Please send us the name of any member of the Communion you wish to nominate for Presiding Bishop by October 31st, 2011.  You may send your nomination to our committee as a whole or to any individual member.  You should be able to click on one of the following links to do that.  Deadline for nominations submitted to our committee: October 31, 2011.

Use this link to contact the whole committee about your nomination:  pbnom@lists.ecc-voices.org

Or choose an individual member of the committee to communicate with about your nomination:

3rd Annual SCF Trivia Night
Trivia
Mark your calendar for the 3rd Annual Sts. Clare & Francis Trivia Night!  We are returning to The Heights on October 14, 2011, for a fun filled evening from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.  Trivia will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Watch for the reservation form.

We are in need of financial contributions, attendance prizes, silent auction items and volunteers to make this a successful event.  If you know someone who owns a business, please ask them to make a contribution to a great cause.  All of us have favorite restaurants or shops that we frequent.  The next time you visit one of your favorite places, ask them for a gift certificate.  Most places really do enjoy giving back to the community.

1.  If you would like to volunteer, contact Mary Ellen Kruger at mek002@hotmail.com or 314-962-0964.

2.  If you have an attendance prize donation that you believe has a value of $25 or less, please contact Peggy Montgomery at catto89@hotmail.com or 314-647-0664.

3.  If you have a silent auction donation that you believe has a value over $25, please contact Nancy Wamser at walksoftly6@yahoo.com or 314-394-6654.

Put October 14th on your calendar and start working on getting together a group of friends to join you.

We hunger to be known and understood. We hunger to be loved. We hunger to be at peace inside our own skins. We hunger not just to be fed these things, but often without realizing it, we hunger to feed others these things because they too are starving for them. We hunger not just to be loved but to love, not just to be forgiven but to forgive, not just to be known and understood for all the good times and bad times that for better or worse have made us who we are, but to know and understand each other to the same point of seeing that, in the last analysis, we all have the same good times, the same bad times, and that for that very reason there is no such thing in all the world as anyone who is really a stranger.
