We Tithe as a parish and we need your recommendations
We have committed to tithing as a parish. We donate 10% of all that we collect in our offerings to worthy causes. We do this as an act of faith, trusting that, in doing this, we will still be able to meet our financial needs. We have received a number of wonderful suggestions. Please continue to let the Parish Council know about worthy organizations that you would like us as a community to contribute to. Information needed: your name, name of organization you are suggesting, to whom check should be made payable, where to send check and to whose attention.  Please send your suggestions to
Marilyn Tenholder.

Matthew 25
The Matthew 25 Fund helps members in our community who need financial assistance. All information concerning the people with whom we work is held in the strictest confidence. If you would like to contribute to this fund, make your check payable to Matthew 25, and place it in the collection basket. If you would like to donate cash, put it in an envelope labeled "Matthew 25" and place it in the collection basket.  If you need assistance from the fund, you can contact
Peggy Montgomery

SCF Online Booksale
Please consider donating books to the Sts. Clare & Francis Online Book sale Fundraiser.  All proceeds, net of fees, will go to Sts. Clare & Francis.

We are looking for good quality new or used books on religion, spirituality, self-help, business, textbooks, cookbooks, psychology, books signed by the author and children's books.  We will accept books from other categories, too, but fiction (especially paperback) doesn't sell very well. You can bring your books to the weekly Mass on Saturdays at 5:00 pm or you can arrange for pickup by calling Art Maines at 314.518.1973. If you have questions about the sale or books you'd like to donate, you can call Art at the same number.

Quest for the Living God

Join us every Thursday evening at 7:00pm to discuss this stimulating book, Quest for the Living God by Elizabeth Johnson.  This week we will gather to discuss Chapter 2 at our Eden office, lower level Schultz Hall. If you order the book through Left Bank Books through the Recommended Reading page on our website, Sts. Clare & Francis will receive a portion of the sale.  Come when you can.  Chapter summaries and discussion questions will be available for those weeks that you miss.

Summary:

Since the middle of the twentieth century there has been a renaissance of new insights into God in the Christian tradition. On different continents, under pressure from historical events and social conditions, people of faith have glimpsed the living God in fresh ways. It is not that a wholly different God is discovered from the One believed in by previous generations. Christian faith does not believe in a new God but, finding itself in new situations, seeks the presence of God there. Aspects long-forgotten are brought into new relationships with current events, and the depths of divine compassion are appreciated in ways not previously imagined.

This book further explores these discoveries. After the first chapter describes Elizabeth Johnson's point of departure and the rules of engagement, each succeeding chapter distills a discrete idea of God. Featured are transcendental, political, liberation, feminist, black, hispanic, interreligious, and ecological theologies, ending with the particular Christian idea of the one God as Trinity. The aim of the book is to increase the light of theological knowledge, "ever ancient, ever new," among a wide circle of people, including students, pastoral ministers, and everyone who questions, wonders, or thinks about their faith.

Continuum, 2007. $24.95 hardcover 234p

Construction at EUCC

Here is some important information regarding the Under constructionupcoming construction at our host church, Evangelical UCC. There are safety concerns. Children must be attended at all times while in the building:

Construction Alert!
Phase One Construction has begun!  For the next couple of months, we will have some safety issues to monitor and changes in meeting locations.
Rooms that are being renovated on the South Wall must be emptied and sealed due to lead paint dust.  With the exception of the Nursery, all of the classrooms have been emptied and have plastic covering the doorways. We ask that the rooms not be entered.  Rooms on the Southeast corner (Katy's office, Adult Lounge, half of the red and blue rooms) are also being prepped for construction and at some point will be sealed.
Parking: Please park in the upper lot. The lower lot is the staging area for the construction projects.

Open meeting space for the next two months is limited to the Fireside Room and the meeting rooms in the Still Speaking Center (212 Building)  Please be sure to contact Sue (314.968.1727) to get all meetings and groups on the church calendar.

Undoubtedly, too, we have over prepared in some areas and have forgotten details in other areas. Our sense of humor and belief in one another's good intentions will serve us well over the coming weeks.
Before the Parade Passes By...
Pride Parade

Sts. Clare & Francis is organizing a group to walk in this year's Pridefest Parade, Sunday, June 27, noon to 2 pm. We would like a sizeable group to represent our community. The parade begins at Gravois and proceeds north on Grand to Arsenal (about a 2 mile walk).

This year's theme is 'Living Green Better Together"(LGBT) .

Art and Frank have offered to host an annual Sts.Clare & Francis BBQ after the parade, where everyone is welcome to celebrate with us, whether a parade walker or not!

Please consider walking  and celebrating with us. Invite family, friends and neighbors!  Contact Paul or Sue Nauert (suenauert@gmail.com, or 314.849.6475) if interested.
