We Tithe as a parish and we need your recommendations We have committed to tithing as a parish. We donate 10% of all that we collect in our offerings to worthy causes. Summer Book Discussion
Join us every Thursday evening at 7:30pm to discuss this stimulating book, Quest for the Living God by Elizabeth Johnson. We will gather in E UCC's fireside room to discuss one chapter per week starting with Chapter 1 on June 3. If you order the book through Left Bank Books through the Recommended Reading page on our website, Sts. Clare & Francis will receive a portion of the sale. Come when you can. Chapter summaries and discussion questions will be available for those weeks that you miss.
Summary:
Since the middle of the twentieth century there has been a renaissance of new insights into God in the Christian tradition. On different continents, under pressure from historical events and social conditions, people of faith have glimpsed the living God in fresh ways. It is not that a wholly different God is discovered from the One believed in by previous generations. Christian faith does not believe in a new God but, finding itself in new situations, seeks the presence of God there. Aspects long-forgotten are brought into new relationships with current events, and the depths of divine compassion are appreciated in ways not previously imagined.
This book further explores these discoveries. After the first chapter describes Elizabeth Johnson's point of departure and the rules of engagement, each succeeding chapter distills a discrete idea of God. Featured are transcendental, political, liberation, feminist, black, hispanic, interreligious, and ecological theologies, ending with the particular Christian idea of the one God as Trinity. The aim of the book is to increase the light of theological knowledge, "ever ancient, ever new," among a wide circle of people, including students, pastoral ministers, and everyone who questions, wonders, or thinks about their faith.

Construction begins at EUCC Here is some important information regarding the upcoming construction at our host church, Evangelical UCC. There are safety concerns. Children must be attended at all times while in the building: Construction Alert! Phase One Construction has begun! For the next couple of months, we will have some safety issues to monitor and changes in meeting locations.
Rooms that are being renovated on the South Wall must be emptied and sealed due to lead paint dust. With the exception of the Nursery, all of the classrooms have been emptied and have plastic covering the doorways. We ask that the rooms not be entered. Rooms on the Southeast corner (Katy's office, Adult Lounge, half of the red and blue rooms) are also being prepped for construction and at some point will be sealed.
Parking: Please park in the upper lot. The lower lot is the staging area for the construction projects. Open meeting space for the next two months is limited to the Fireside Room and the meeting rooms in the Still Speaking Center (212 Building) Please be sure to contact Sue (314.968.1727) to get all meetings and groups on the church calendar. Undoubtedly, too, we have over prepared in some areas and have forgotten details in other areas. Our sense of humor and belief in one another's good intentions will serve us well over the coming weeks. |

An Invitation to the 2010 Synod
from Bishop Peter
Greetings to my beloved Sisters and Brothers of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion! Dear Co-workers and Fellow Ministers of the Gospel of Christ, It is with great joy that I invite delegates of the House of Laity, the House of Pastors, other ECC members, communion partners, as well as our many friends and visitors, to the 2010 Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion on October 26-29 in St. Louis, Missouri! You will be receiving forms for registration by email and they will also be available on our ECC website: www.ecumenical-catholic-communion.org. The theme for the Synod is "Being Built Together into a Dwelling Place for the Spirit." (Eph 2:2). It occurred to the planning committee that recent Synods have focused on our framework, such as in 2007 creating a legislative pathway toward a more relational communion though a process of regionalization. This Synod will help us take another step by celebrating the bricks that are now being put onto this framework: new communities, new communion partners, two new regions with proposed regional bishops, a proposed auxiliary bishop, and a new suffragan bishop. Please consider this letter as a call to any legislative ideas. I have asked George von Stamwitz to chair the legislative committee. Please have any ideas submitted to the legislative committee by June 30, 2010 at gvonstamwitz@armstrongteasdale.com. George has committed to have a legislative report to all the delegates by July 31st for consideration and feedback prior to the Synod. I so look forward to seeing you, sharing our faith together and cooperating with the Holy Spirit in the building of our beloved communion! In the Peace and Love of Christ, + Peter Elder Hickman Presiding Bishop Ecumenical Catholic Communion

Summer Barbeques It's time to begin planning for the third annual summer barbecues for the Sts. Clare & Francis community. The last two years of summer barbecues were a great success and enjoyed by all who attended. If you'd like to get to know your faith family better, in a relaxed and fun atmosphere, this is a place to do it. We are beginning the scheduling and organizing for this summer. The host/hostess supplies the atmosphere, plates, utensils, napkins, etc. The attendees each bring a dish to share. If you would like to host a barbecue in June, July, August or September please contact Linda Bennett at 314.965.8709 or wbennett301@sbcglobal.net. Linda will be the contact person to organize scheduling and items brought by the participants. |
