Motion Picture Country House Rich In Hollywood History
Did you know the building in which the SOC will hold its next general membership breakfast meeting is steeped in Hollywood history? Since its historical beginnings in 1940, many famous residents as well as those who worked behind the scenes have spent their twilight years here on these grounds.
Take some time before or after our meeting to stroll around the campus and soak up some of its rich history. You'll see familiar industry names on many of the buildings. If you have an opportunity, spend a few minutes wandering the halls of the Motion Picture Health Center to enjoy the collection of vintage photographs lining the walls.

Constitution and Bylaws SOC Board Recommends Approval of Amendments
After several meetings the SOC Constitution and Bylaws Committee has proposed a series of amendments to update the document that describes this society. It had not been revised in almost 18 years and was sorely in need of change. Many of the proposed revisions deal with housekeeping
issues such as making the wording
gender-neutral, and correcting grammatical mistakes. Other more
substantial changes are included in the areas of committees,
membership, the SOC Awards, and a change in the number of board members
from twenty one (21) to twenty five (25). If approved, one long awaited amendment will finally change our name from the "Society Of Operating Camera men" to the "Society Of Camera Operators". The committee presented its recommendations to the Board of Governors back in February of this year. The Board had some addtional changes to make and at the subsequent Board of Governors meeting in March, the revised amendments were approved for submission the SOC legal counsel for further scrutiny. After months of sorting out the legal details the amendments to the SOC Constitution and Bylaws have been finalized and approved by the Board of Governors for presentation the the General Membership. Active members will receive a copy of the proposed amendments in their election materials which will be mailed out early next year. We hope to include these along with the Board of Governor election package. Members should be able to elect the new Board and vote on the Constitution and Bylaws Amendments all in the same mailing. Thanks
to committee chair Dan Gold, SOC, and committee members Dan Kneece, SOC, David Frederick, SOC, David
Mahlmann, SOC, Jack Messitt, SOC, Bonnie Blake, SOC, Michael Chambliss,
SOC and Mike Frediani, SOC for their hard work and thoughtful recommendations. |
