Local 80 Dolly Grip Training
The SOC supplies the  camera operators

David Mahlmann, SOC works out a complicated dolly shot on dance floor.

The latest members of Local 80's dolly grip class and SOC camera operators worked together in an educational workshop designed to give some hands on experience to the newly trained dolly grips. Local 80's Russ Norstedt teaches the class. A panel discussion with the operators preceded the practical workshop which drilled the participants for 4 hours. Veteran dolly grip Ed Peters and J.L. Fisher's Frank Kaye contributed their expertise as well. Fisher generously donated the dollies.

The new dolly grips got to practice two complicated dolly shots, one on track, the other on dance floor. SOC operators Mike Scott, Dan Gold, David Mahlmann, David Tolsky, Robert Guernsey and others offered advice and constructive criticism as they rode the dollies and watched the shots on a video projection screen.

The SOC Donates to the Vision Center

Dan Kneece, George Leon and Bonnie Blake presented two checks to Dr. Mark Borchert, Dr. Natalia Uribe, Dr. Thomas Lee and Amanda Hedlund. The $500 donation from J.L. Fisher and the $764 donation raised by the SOC with the help of Stan McClain at FilmTools and Lightpanels will support the valuable work done at the Vision Center, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, one of the world's largest, most respected pediatric facilities for eye care.

The Vision Center staff was very appreciative and reminded us how the work that George Leon, David Mahlmann and his crew have done on the documentary has helped them to obtain needed funding. Look for an upcoming article in the SOC magazine, Camera Operator.  George Leon will also be posting related photos on his website and the SOC Facebook page.
