Patient Testimonial

"I would tell a friend or relative that OPTC was a wonderful facility to have my physical therapy. My therapist and assistant therapist were very thorough and informative.
They explained how the muscles, tendons, etc. should function and how therapy will help them function as they should without pain. And that's exactly what happened!"

Aaron Molloy, PT, DPT, CSCS, manages the Montgomery Center and he is also a partner of OPTC. Aaron received both his undergraduate and doctorate degrees from the University of Michigan-Flint. He enjoys treating all types of patients and uses the ASTYM treatment on many of his applicable patients. The ASTYM treatment uses instruments along the surface of the skin to locate problem areas and to start the body's healing process.

Amanda Haws, PT, DPT, is new to the OPTC family and is working with Aaron at our Montgomery Center! She received her undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University and her doctorate degree from University of Dayton. Amanda said the following about becoming a certified physical therapist,"I have always had a passion for helping others. I was specifically drawn to physical therapy after seeing how much it helped my grandfather, who was paralyzed following a serious car accident. Being a physical therapist is very rewarding. I really enjoy getting to know each patient on a personal level and I strive to develop a plan of care that will allow patients to overcome obstacles and return to the activities they love to do."

Aaron and Amanda are joined by Michelle Anello at the front desk and PT aides: Annarose, Drew, and Cam. Feel free to stop in and say hello to our Montgomery Center staff!

Kinesio Taping
|
Kinesio Taping is a multifaceted taping technique that can be used to treat any injury from head to toe! Kinesio Taping utilizes a technique that can be applied over muscles, tendons, or ligaments. It works to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused muscles and tendons, to correct a joint's alignment, and to facilitate muscles in movement. Because Kinesio Tape is a non-restrictive, highly elastic type of tape, it allows for full range of motion and function, unlike traditional sports tape.
It provides stabilization and support during not only sporting events, but also during daily activity. In rehabilitative applications it works continuously and can provide an additional 3-5 day relief after therapy. Kinesio Tape promotes healing in a variety of ways. Because your therapist can not provide treatment and a "hands on" approach to you at all times, Kinesio Taping is like having healing hands to put on the injured area 24-7.
Unlike athletic tape, which is taught, limits motion, causes skin irritation from latex adhesive, and easily falls off, Kinesio Tape is safer with all ages. It is latex free, breathable and light, safe for all ages, water resistant, wears for 3-5 days, and allows for full mobility! Anyone at any age can benefit from Kinesio Tape.
What type of pain or injury can be treated by using the Kinesio Taping Therapy?
- Arthritis
- Back and neck pain
- Dislocations
- Limited range of motion and inflexibility
- Postural dysfunction
- Prenatal and postnatal, pregnancy instability
- Sports and orthopedic injuries
- Sprains and strains
- Swelling and lymphodema
If you have an injury, come see one of our physical therapists and about Kinesio Tape! We can provide you additional relief to relieve acute and overuse injuries, promote circulation and healing, reduce pain, improve muscle function, support a joint and prevent injury!

Hydration Tips
| |
Finally, the heat is on. It's summertime! It has been extremely hot these past few weeks, but it is time to get outside to hike, bike, swim and do anything else outdoors we can imagine. It is even a great time to sit in the sun and watch your favorite sporting event. What you may have noticed while you are doing all of these wonderful activities is how thirsty you have become. If you have become thirsty your body has already lost 1-2% of its fluids, about 1-2 liters of body water. Yikes! What are we going to do about this?
The first thing we want to do this summer is pre-hydrate our bodies. We can do this by drinking 16-32 ounces of fluid before activity. Then we want to keep drinking fluids throughout our activity, about 16-20 ounces every 10-15 minutes. Finally we need to drink about 20 ounces of fluids for every pound of body weight lost during the activity.
Here are some signs of dehydration you may experience this summer:
- Fatigue
- Loss of appetite
- Flushed skin
- Heat intolerance
- Light-headedness
- Dark colored urine
- Dry cough
- Headaches
- Muscle cramping
Remember, dehydration can lead to some serious issues for the body including, heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Signs of these more advanced conditions include flushed skin, chills, tingling in extremities and the inability to sweat. Emergency medical attention should be given to those suffering from these symptoms.
Now be sure you are drinking the proper fluids this summer. Alcohol and carbonated beverages are fine in moderation but the body does not tolerate them well during summer activities in the heat and sun. It is best to hydrate with water and the occasional sports drink. Sports drinks are good for replacing chemicals such as sodium and potassium lost during activity as well as the fluids. During heavy exercise, alternate water with the sports drink for optimum hydration.
By taking these hydration steps hopefully your summer will be more enjoyable. Have a great summer!
