Ham Center

Oxford Physical Therapy Centers Hamilton location is happy to announce an expansion which should be complete in September.  Born and raised in Hamilton, Terry Leak, PTA, ATC, manages the clinic and provides patients with high-quality, individualized care.  Terry has been a part of the OPTC family for almost 16 years!

With the expansion come a few new faces to the Hamilton Center in Jessica Wulke, PT, DPT, Cara Miller, PTA, and James Trombley who is an aid.  There are some familiar faces at the Hamilton Center in Ronda True who has been an aid with OPTC for over 2 years,  Suzanne Stephens who is at the front desk and has been with OPTC for over 6 years, and Scott Wright, PT who comes to Hamilton one day a week and has been with OPTC for 10 years.

What is new at the Hamilton Center?

As we mentioned, the Hamilton Center is in the process of expansion! The reason for this is to open up the clinic, gain more space which means more treatment tables and ultimately the capability to treat more patients! Terry is a very skilled clinician, but with the expansion he needs some more talented clinicians to help him.

Jessica Wulke, PT DPT is working out of the Oxford and Hamilton Centers. Jessica comes to us from Iowa! We are happy to have her on staff and her patients are too! Just recently a patient who was hesitant to do physical therapy in the first place had this to say about her experience with OPTC and Jessica;

"Just a note to let you know no more pain. Jessica has put me back together. Will tell everyone I see how nice you are treated and that Jessica treats you with great care and a beautiful smile. Will let Dr. Hoke know how pleased I am and highly recommend your business for therapy. I feel so good."

~Wanda

Cara Miller, PTA is also working at both the Oxford Center and Hamilton Center. Cara was an aid with OPTC for years and we were happy to get her on staff as a Physical Therapy Assistant. Cara's positive attitude and high energy are fun to be around. She shares this with all of her patients, including her aquatic patients. The Hamilton Center is now offering aquatic physical therapy on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to Noon at the Fitton Family YMCA located just a few miles from our Center.

Terry is involved in the community, providing coverage at local athletic events. Terry is committed to the community and to his profession, distinguishing himself as a top-notch clinician. Some of the local groups we work with are the Hamilton Joes, Miami Hamilton Athletics, and New Miami High School.

Tips to Stay Safe While Cheering
on Your Favorite Team
If you're an avid sports fan, chances are you've experienced some aches and pains from sitting in stadium seating or standing for long periods of time. We'd like to provide you with some tips on staying pain free while routing for your team.

1. When possible, sit in a seat with back support. Seating without back support (like bleachers) offers less support for your spine, frequently resulting in poor posture and eventually back pain. If bleachers are the only choice and you sit in them frequently, investing in your own cushion (some even come with a back) could help reduce the likelihood of pain.

2. Avoid maintaining one position for too long. Don't wait for the seventh inning stretch to give your body a break! Every 30 minutes to 1 hour, stand, stretch, and even go for a short walk. This can reduce loading to the spine and other structures, preventing stiffness and pain.

3. If you are standing on the sidelines watching a game, reduce the load on your spine by contracting your transverse abdominals, a part of your core which work as your own internal back brace. To do this, pull "in and up" with your belly button. You should not have to hold your breath. Building endurance in these muscles is the goal, so work on this task as frequently as possible.

4. Chose the right foot wear. You'll want to make sure your arch is supported, especially if you plan on standing a lot, as it will translate to better support for your entire body. Athletic shoes are ideal, but any with adequate arch support will give you that stable base you need.

Our staff can make specific recommendations on more ways to accommodate your individual needs. We are the exclusive medical provider of the Hamilton Joes, so come out and see a game! Give us a call for more information on any of our programs.
