Suzhou has the vibrant Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) that already houses 20,000 multinational and national companies, and is now home to Nanopolis Suzhou, a focal point for the nanotech commercialization, which will total one square kilometer when fully built out. A further 10 billion RMB (about 1.5 B USD) has been committed for the next 5 years to further develop Suzhou's high-tech and nanotech enabled industries. SIP is equipped with the start of art micro/nano-fabrication and characterization facilities as well as a 6-inch MEMS fabrication platform with plans to strengthen the MEMS ecosystem. SIP has attracted over 12 MEMS R&D and production companies within the last 4 years. It has developed world class R&D and commercialization capabilities in the areas of Micro- & Nano-manufacturing Technologies, Energy and Green Technologies, and Nano Medicine.
