Janna Dutton & Associates Attorney Kathryn Casey on New Illinois Convenience Account Law

Kathryn Casey
Janna Dutton & Associates attorney Kathryn Casey recently authored an article on a new Illinois law allowing convenience accounts.  Effective January 1, 2010, the new convenience accounts provide bank account holders with another option for those who want to name another person on their account.  Previously,  the only way to name another person on your account was as joint tenants with rights of survivorship.  Now, you are able to name a person on your account without entitling that person to inherit the account upon your death.  The law also allows you to remove the person from your account without his/her permission.

SSA Includes Early-Onset Alzheimer's in Compassionate Allowance Initiative

SSAOn Thursday, February 11, the Social Security Administration (SSA) announced that it has added early-onset Alzheimer's disease to the list of conditions under its Compassionate Allowance Initiative. Under this initiative, SSA will find individuals with certain diseases/conditions eligible for Social Security disability (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and other disability benefits by the nature of the disease. While applicants would still have to meet other SSDI criteria and/or SSI criteria, when it comes to the disability criterion, they would be considered eligible by virtue of the disease and fast-tracked for a favorable decision about their eligibility for SSDI and SSI benefits.
