RiverQuest Charters It's April and the spring run of steelhead is now in full swing. Steelhead can be found in the deep cuts and glides, as well as in the shallow spawning gravel sections of the Muskegon River. Both drop-backs and new chrome steelhead are aggressively taking well-drifted flies with the now warmer spring water. Nymphs such as green caddis, sparkle stones, sparrows, and hexes give the spring steelhead fisherman great chances for success. The peak spring migration will be with us from now until the middle of May. Trout fishermen will notice resident rainbow and brown trout starting to feed on the plentiful adult black stoneflies that hatch each afternoon, giving us the opportunity for the first dry fly fishing of the year.
With short term dates available, if you wish to schedule a spring steelhead trip or catch the season's first rising trout on a dry fly, drop us an email or give us a call @ 616.293.0501. Please visit our website for updated, accurate fishing reports.

Muskegon River Lodge Spring has sprung on the grounds of the Muskegon River Lodge. The first spring flowers of the season are now in full bloom, while the others are just starting to wake up. The woods are filled with calls of birds that have made it back to their seasonal residence. The change of the season has not only brought new life to the landscape around us, but we have wrapped up winter projects, just in time for our spring guests. The conference room is now complete and ready for new strategies to be formed or products launched. Guests wishing for every aspect of their stay to be pre-planned will enjoy the new catered dinner options, by Consider It Done; a complete menu may be downloaded through the "Special Opps" section of the lodge website. Guests may also wish to schedule a symposia of fine wines, scotches, or cigars from around the world while at the lodge. For more information on how you can get-away with us, drop us a note, visit us on the web, or simply give us a call @ 616.293.0501.

What's In Your Guide's Box? As you have surely come to expect, the guide's fly box is stocked full of many different flies that fish in a variety of ways, for particular situations. Pictured is a Senyo Sculpin, tied by Mike Schmidt. This pattern is fished on the swing, targeting steelhead. This streamer pattern is natural by design and color. Steelhead, particularly drop-back steelhead, anxious to strap on the feedbag, pounce on this pattern as it is swung down and across likely glides and holding water. Be ready; you'll know when they hit this one!

Kayak Spotlight
Jackson Kayak - The Day Tripper
"A utility kayak that can carry and do it all."
This
edition's kayak review comes in the form of an all around, "Let the good times
roll," sport utility paddle vehicle. The
Day Tripper from Jackson
is made from virtually indestructible polyethylene and comes complete with a
lifetime warranty. Also, every ounce of
this kayak is made right here in the good 'ole United States of America. The Day Tripper comes in two sizes, 10 foot
and 12 foot. Both models have a wide-open cockpit that makes easy for entry and exit from the boat. Also, the large cockpit gives you lots of
room for your fishing, camping or other gear that you need with you while you
are out on the water.
There are two versions of the Day Tripper: Elite and Standard. Both of these versions come with bow and
stern handles, mesh pockets, and a removable work deck that slides back and
forth, allowing you to access the built-in tackle box, beverage holders, fish
measuring feature and mounting spots for fishing rod holders or even a
GPS. The big difference is in the
seat.
Elite: Comes with Jackson's
top of the line removable camp chair that adjusts in the kayak easily to trim
the boat out or to make room for your extras (gear, your kids, your dogs, a cooler,
etc.)
Standard: Comes with Jackson's
molded-in seat. The seat isn't
adjustable, but offers a more affordable alternative.
Regardless
of whether you chose a 10 foot or a 12 foot, the Standard or the Elite, The Day
Tripper kayak by Jackson is the perfect all
around boat to paddle on Michigan's
inland lakes, streams and rivers. Get
yours today!
