NC Affordable Housing Conference
It was great to see our old friends and make new ones at this year's NC Affordable Housing Conference. This year's conference entitled "Housing Works" was a huge success. The annual conference is hosted by the North Carolina Housing Coalition, the Community Investment Corporation of the Carolinas, and the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, and brings together financers, builders, architects and non-profit organizations to work towards successful affordable housing across the state.
TightLines Designs was again a sponsor this year and had a booth in the exhibition area. David Maurer, President of TightLines, presented a highly attended session entitled "Green Building for Small, Affordable Homes" speaking about how simple - and with minimal cost - design and construction related decisions can be made to make your new home energy-efficient, healthy, and eco-friendly.

TightLines in Norfolk, Virginia
Florence III
 |
TightLines has been working closely with the Norfolk Redevelopment Housing Authority to provide pre-approved house plans for their developement jurisdiction.TightLines' plans - the Alston III, the Ansley II, the Florence III, and the Madison II - were selected to fulfill their needs for smaller, affordable homes and for infill development.
David Maurer was recently invited to speak at the fall meeting of their Builders and Designers Guild, specifically about our techniques for green and energy-efficient building. The response was quite overwhelming, especially when they learned our homes are averaging about $30 per month for heating and cooling bills!
We're excited about our new friends in Norfolk! |

TightLines and SystemVision Training
Becky Bascom and Tara Weeks recently participated in Advanced Energy's SystemVision Training. The day-long session overviewed various building techniques, ranging from stud walls to insulation to HVAC ducts, that ensure a tight building envelope and therefore an energy efficient home. The training provided a great understanding for the details that make a successful building system. TightLines has incorporated many of these details into our construction documents and are working with Advanced Energy to add even more. Click here if you're interested in this free training. |
