Paying Your Taxes Electronically

The Electronic Federal Tax Payment System, also known as EFTPS, is a program provided by the U.S. Department of Treasury that allows taxpayers to make tax payments electronically using either the Internet or telephone.  Available 24 hours a day, individuals can use it to make quarterly estimated tax payments and/or pay a balance due on a tax return.  Payments may be scheduled in advance to be paid on the due date.  The EFTPS program requires enrollment, but no fee is required to use the system.  Since payments are drafted from your bank, your account information is required when you sign up.  To enroll, or for more information online, click on the EFTPS link below.

The IRS contracts with various service providers to receive federal tax payments from taxpayers who prefer to use a credit card.  These providers will charge a fee each time you use their service.

The state of Ohio provides ePayment, an online service, to pay by credit card or electronic check. As with the EFTPS program, it allows taxpayers to schedule payments in advance to be paid on the due date.

Ohio also has an automated payment by telephone option. The state uses Official Payments Corporation to provide this service.  They will charge you a fee each time it is used.
