Property Tax Relief:  The Ohio Homestead Exemption

The Homestead Exemption is available to homeowners age 65 and older as well as homeowners who are totally and permanently disabled.  This exemption offers homeowners, regardless of income, the opportunity to shield up to $25,000 of the market value of their homestead from property taxation.

To take advantage of the homestead exemption, seniors and disabled Ohioans must apply with their local county auditor. Applications may be submitted in any year after the first Monday in January and before the first Monday in June. During 2011, county auditors will be accepting applications from January 4 through June 6.
