2011 Social Security Wage Base

The Social Security Administration announced the maximum amount of earnings subject to Social Security will be unchanged in 2011.  The wage base, above which wages are not subject to Social Security taxes, will be $106,800.

Social Security's Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance program limits the amount of earnings subject to taxation for a given year. This is known as the Social Security wage base.  The Social Security wage base generally rises each year with increases in the national average wage index. There is no cost of living adjustment for 2011 Social Security benefits. Consequently, there is no increase in the wage base, which remains at $106,800 for 2011.
