With some reflection - of course it has been easy to get caught up in all the natural disasters this year and be distracted by the impact it may have on the local jobs market. The good news, if we can promote such, is that there is a distinct surge in demand occurring with the last several weeks being as busy as I have seen for two years. It would appear the demand is coming from most sectors but in particular energy, mining and professional services and I am brave enough to say there will be no let up in the foreseeable future.
Every day I read about the "skills shortage". This is not going to go away and organisations are becoming very aggressive about there "solicitation " process. The "golden hello" is being broadcast about the market place and only during the week the Financial Review had an article on this very thing in the Property market. In order for companies to "lure" talent, paying monies up front i.e a once off bonus to secure the sign on is becoming as much a part of the recruitment process as is the salary negotiation. Strategies for securing human talent are becoming more and more sophisticated!
