While many people are amazed that the Australian dollar very nearly reached parity with the US dollar overnight, it is the cause of this sharp rise that has caught the attention of our office. The catalyst of course being, 55,800 new full-time jobs that were created in September. This is a staggering figure which has not only resulted in the increase of the value of our dollar, but has also given new life to several different areas of the country's economy.

Hand-in-hand with an increase in employment comes well lined pockets and as such, the hospitality and retail sectors are recording a resurgence in business. Encouragingly, some business owners have even reported a return to profits that they haven't seen since before the economic downturn. It is thanks to those figures that we are also seeing an increase in job vacancies in those areas of the jobs market. The demand has been welcomed with open arms by candidates and recruiters alike, as these areas have been some of the worst hit in recent times with minimal salary reviews and cutbacks in hours causing many to seek work in other industries. Furthermore, suppliers to these industries have consequently had to increase their staff levels in order to keep up with the demand for product. And the jobs just keep coming!

 

This can only mean the continuation of good things for our dollar and Australia's economy as a whole, which is at least one positive note we can focus on in all of the doom and gloom of the forecasts we have been bombarded with during the course of this economic crisis. We expect with the release of these figures, to see an increase in confidence and therefore.. you guessed it, more jobs!
