Whist the unemployment rate in Australia is falling, the price of petrol is tumbling; the price of gold is rising as is the stockmarket and the prospect of interest rates rising positive - the US markets are completely the opposite.

Are there any fundamentals that drive global markets any more or are we just operating on the basis of "speculation"? Similarly with politics... Julia Gillard promises not to revisit the "mining tax" pre election, however after Marius Klopper's announcement that he recommends Australia introduce a carbon tax sooner rather than later the debate is back on the government's agenda. On the front page of todays Australian Financial Review: "The Federal government has opened the way to introducing a carbon tax as it begins talks with the Greens about reducing emissions, prompting the opposition to claim it was backflipping on it's pre-election promise to reject a new tax."

It makes one wonder why we should pay any attention to what economists, economic rationalists, environmental evangelists or simple politicians are saying. Take it from me that in the world of jobs the market is firmly on the rise. Given the level of general enquiry from job seekers and the demand for people from employers, we are set for a very busy pre Christmas. There is one thing for sure and that is our growth in demand for people will continue to rise as long as the US and European markets keep their collective financial heads above water which is looking very precarious at the moment.

On a brighter note you are invited to an outstanding event on the eve of the Melbourne Cup in support of the Abused Childs Trust. This event is an inaugural yearly fund raising which is promising to be outstanding whilst supporting a Charity which is dear to many people's hearts. Please take the time to read the invitation and visit the Trust's site, please follow the link here.
