Allow Common Sense to Prevail...

It never ceases to amaze me how often indecision and procrastination rule the outcome of an organisation's search for talent! It tends to occur most often when a company can least afford it, like when the market is "red-hot" with large demand for fewer candidates. "When opportunity knocks" is a great catch cry and something that should be adopted when it comes to talent attraction. Too often line managers are baulked by the threat of someone being over qualified for a role and will therefore procrastinate about the selection rather than take an advantage in the market by up skilling their workforce.

Healthy organisations are those that replenish talent, who up skill their workforce by employing "seasoned" individuals and who make clear yet calculated decisions in a timely manner. Sure, there is always going to be a risk associated with poor selection outcomes but it is those amongst us who prosper from making a decision to hire when the person "looks wrong but is right..."

The Search for talent has never been easy and it certainly is not getting easier. In these times of uncertainty we need to apply common sense when attracting, employing and retaining human resources.
