Take Me to the Water, ceramic installation, by Nancy Munro

Alaska artist Nancy Munro divides her time between Anchorage and Halibut Cove. Munro's solo exhibit, "Take Me to the Water", draws upon her love affair with the ocean through a series of sculptures inspired by marine life, both mythical and real. Sirens calling sailors to the shore, wall pieces that are part sea creature, part shaman mask--- forms that speak to the wonder of the sea. Munro has explored art since 1997 in coursework at the University of California, Berkeley, the Arts Students League in New York City and the University of Alaska, Anchorage. She is the founder of Saltwater Inc. image: "Kelp" porcelain paper clay, dimensions approximately, 24" x 70" variable, 2011.

Jazz Piano Mountain Adventure with Dan McElrath June 24
 | Dan McElrath at 6000 feet with Piano overlooking the Marcus-Baker glacier and icefield |
"About 40 miles by helicopter flight from Girdwood, I landed upon one of the most incredible sites I have ever seen, about 6000 feet in altitude overlooking the Marcus- Baker glacier and icefield, thunder rolling through the mountains as avalanches broke loose in the spring sunshine, no wind at all and about 45 degrees. It was the grandest of amphi-theaters. I will never forget that day. I have put together a new composition based on the event which I will share June 24th at Bunnell." Dan will share images and stills of his piano mountain adventure as a backdrop to new composition, and excerpts from his new release Ajazzka. visit Dan McElrath online. Dan McElrath is a graduate of the Furman University School of Music. He has performed for the past 30 years in venues across America covering a wide range of musical styles from gospel to contemporary jazz. Recently the Dan Mac Quintet completed its first all original Alaskan themed instrumental jazz CD composed by Dan entitled "Ajazzka". Dan is presently composing a jazz oratorio entitled "The Wrong Way Home" - A spiritual journey to God knows where." The concert begins at 7:30 pm. Tickets $5 to $20 at Bunnell.
