A pianist and vocalist with 4 Cd's to her name (and 4 children), "Jazzmom" Melissa Bledsoe Fischer was voted "Best Singer" in 2005 and "Best Solo Act" in 2009. She can make any jazz tune all her own with a vocal quality that ranges from soft and sultry to bold and bawdy. Anchorage friends warn not to miss her! CaFE training, Wednesday, February 17th, 3-5pm
Bunnell hosts a workshop to familiarize artists with WESTAF's Call For Entries website: CaFE.org. Artists can upload digital images of their work, set up an artist's profile and apply to Calls for Entries in Alaska and around the country. CaFE.org is the online application site for all Calls for Art for the Alaska State Council on the Arts (AKSCA), including the Art Bank application with a deadline of February 28th. Artists may participate in person at Bunnell or by teleconference by phone and with their own computers. Other workshops may be scheduled according to artists' needs.

Out North's 16-year tradition of quirky one-person performances by local artists with a running time of under a half hour each.
"Fear No Fear" the visual artist Don Decker takes a light-hearted look at our common fears through performance video and a live reading. It was "The most beautiful part of the night," according to MIke Dunham, ADN. "Letters to Ho Chi Minh" by Van Le explores a journey back to a country, a time and a history that is the backdrop to her family's escape from Vietnam.
"Apocalypse When I Get Around To It" Mark Muro returns for his fifth Under :30 with a story involving a clash of mythologies, both personal and political that he experienced on a recent road trip with an ultra-conservative sibling. Admission: $12 advance-$15 door

Anchorage-based mixed media artist, K N Goodrich's exhibit of new work consists of 18 mixed media acrylic paintings on torn and joined paper. Themes of sacrifice and betrayal from both male and female perspectives pervade this intensely personal body of work. She creates "artwork in a

Accepting applications for the Alex Combs Artist Award
The Alex Combs Artist Award is a designated fund administered by the Bunnell Street Arts Center. Alaskan artists working in ceramics, painting and sculpture may apply for up to $500 to explore new techniques and ideas through workshops and symposiums. The awards are based on the merit of the work and are limited to one award per artist per year. Postmark dead lines for proposals are April 1 and October 1.
