Korean Film Night: Contemporary, Experimental and Avant-Garde
January 21, 7:00 pm
Although Koreans love cinema, experimental film is a new
sensation. Minsu Yang, exhibiting artist at Bunnell in August 2009, and his
colleagues essentially introduced this new form to Korea in the late 1990's
after studying film at San Francisco Art Institute. This evening's screening
will be a 1.5 hour program of recent works by Minsu Yang,
Minyong Jang and Wontae Seo. The films are non-narrative, some
avant-garde and some documentary. Michael Walsh will host the program and lead
discussion after the screening. Suggested
admission: $7. Image from "Breath"

Box-Making Workshop with Margo Klass
January 29-31, Friday eve, Sat & Sun
Boxes - are they functional containers or holders of treasures? In this workshop the box itself is the treasure. The workshop will cover construction materials, measuring, gluing and attaching ornaments. Bring your own collection of small treasures (such as stones, twigs, buttons, ribbons, seeds, etc.) to personalize your box.
Friday 6-8pm, Saturday and Sunday: 10-4pm at Bunnell. Workshop is $150 general/$125 members and includes most materials except for a short list of tools and supplies.

Klass & Soos exhibit continues through February 1, 2010
A Contemporary Book of Saints: Icons - Altars - Reliquaries Inspired by medieval icons, box constructions created by Margo Klass speak to the foibles and obsessions of contemporary culture. Architecturally, the constructions make use of found and fabricated objects to recall icons, shrines, altarpieces, and reliquaries and suggest the intimate contemplative aspects of their historical counterparts. Accompanying the boxes are legends of the saints by writer Frank Soos - philosophic, whimsical, ironic or humorous, but always instructive to the attentive viewer. (St. Ringo pictured)
St. Ringo Patron Saint of Regular Guys
The not so good looking one, not really that good either at what he does, isn't he a bit like you and me? That was yesterday. Today, baby, he's a rich man, too. Go ahead, ask him for a light, bum a smoke, maybe even touch him for a little loan. He's the type to come through. Guys like us always do. His great gift is self-knowledge, to know dumb luck from skill, and to be humble before what grace has granted him.

Plate Painting begins in February!
Bisque-fired plates ready for painting will be in soon. Come paint a plate and contribute to Bunnell's annual membership drive. The Plate Project is an incredible collaboration of potters, painters and community members spearheaded by Ahna Iredale since 1991. See your work on the wall and know that you are helping Bunnell sustaining the arts in this community. We'll set out the glazes to paint with, the friendly support, and a warm and well-list gallery space to work. Oh, yes - and the teapot! Start gathering your ideas, drawings and plate-painting plans. Let 2010 be the best Plate Project yet!
