Greetings! New sparkle at Bunnell! The gallery glitters with new work by Annette Bellamy, Kathryn Carovano, Ann-Margret Wimmerstedt, Kathy Smith, Lisa Wood, Sonya Kelliher-Combs, Turid Senungetuk, Rika Mouw and others just in time for the holidays. The season's spirit lights Margo Klass's reliquaries, Frank Soos's witty legends and Nedra Carroll's ecstatic singing.
See you at the Nutcracker Faire for handmade offerings of local love. Edible Arts is on leave this year and will return next year with vigor.
Bunnell's gallery will close from January 1st to January 11th.
We'll see you then! Happy Holidays!

Margo Klass & Frank Soos, December 4th - 31st
Opening December 4, 5-7 pm. Artists' talk at 6pm. Maura's Cafe catering generously sponsored by Rhonda Johnson and Karen Walls of AlaskaUSA Mortgage Company.
A Contemporary Book of Saints: Icons - Altars - Reliquaries Inspired by medieval icons, box constructions created by Margo Klass speak to the foibles and obsessions of contemporary culture. Architecturally, the constructions make use of found and fabricated objects to recall icons, shrines, altarpieces, and reliquaries and suggest the intimate contemplative aspects of their historical counterparts. Accompanying the boxes are legends of the saints by writer Frank Soos - philosophic, whimsical, ironic or humorous, but always instructive to the attentive viewer. |
Lenedra Carroll
During her extended visit to Homer this holiday season, Nedra Carroll will share music, tools for creative growth and inspiration with old friends, new friends, artists and family in three events at Bunnell Street Arts Center. DECEMBER 9, 6pm TALK AND POTLUCKNedra has performed for kings, queens and presidents, but it is the simple values and frontier creativity of this small town that inspire her. She will share her insights and then we will mingle for a potluck of fabulous finger foods. Bring a dish to share. A donation of $5 (suggested) supports Bunnell. DECEMBER 11, time TBA WORKSHOPTuning into the artist within, a brainstorming and barnstorming workshop. "For those who join me, I want to know who you are, what you are doing, what you feel the world needs, and how I and others can support you in that. We will share, plan, open and sing together and those who choose may join me in several songs during Saturday's concert." The workshop donation is $11, with a discount for those who attend more than one event. The workshop will be scheduled to meet interested participants' availability.

Looking back at 2009.... Despite the economic downturn, Bunnell is burgeoning: reaching more members, more of our community, collaborating with more artists, audiences and arts organizations than ever before. It is your memberships, your purchases, your support of concerts and performances and your contributions to specific programs like Artist in Schools and the Alex Combs Award that have made it all possible. From board and staff, from artist and audience, from teacher and student...

2009 brought us... ...Smashing exhibitions like Words and Pictures, the Ken Gray retrospective, Spill, Alaska Abstract Painting, Skin Sisters, Countenance: Masks of the North, Linda Infante-Lyons, Deland Anderson, Kate Boyan, and PhotoFest, to name a few.
...Performances by national and local artists Kristina Wong, Jose Torres Tamas, Under 30, The Thank-You Bar, The Big One, the Wedding Fashion Show and Jazzline.
...Concerts by Tim Easton, Evan Phillips, Atz Kilcher, Atz Lee Kilcher, Jane Ferman, Radislav Lorkovic, Marshall Hawkins, Markus Burger, Hallie Hudson, Emily Reidel, Dave Welty, Jerami Youngblood, and Jewel.
