World Rabies
Day

World Rabies Day is Septemeber 28, 2010.

World Rabies

It its important to be aware how to prevent rabies in animals and people.

There are studies that show  94 percent of dog owners get their pets vaccinated against rabies but only 75 percent of cat owners reported their feline friends are vaccinated. This discrepancy might be explained by the finding that 57 percent of cat owners thought their indoor pets weren't at risk of contracting rabies, while just 37 percent of dogs owners felt the same. (Perhaps it's not a surprise then that cats are almost three times as likely to get rabies as dogs, making cats the U.S. pet most likely to contract the disease), according to Firstline.

Rabies is always fatal in animals once clinical signs appear. To Learn more about Rabies please visit www.worldrabiesday.org.

Greetings!

September is such a busy pet month! We have World Rabies Day and National Dog Week. Check out the Tasty Sweet Potato Cookie Recipe for your pooch. The cool weather will be here next month and we will really be able to spoil our pets with walks, hikes, or running. As always we are open to suggestions and want to hear what you think!
National Dog Week

National Dog Week is September 22 through September 28. The theme is  "Man's Best Friend",which is a great description of our relationship with dogs. It is a greatBurton chance to show how much you truly love and appreciate your dog this week.

Here are some ways to help your dog enjoy the week and keep them healthy!

  • Take them on a walk (if the weather permits), our early morning hours and evenings are starting to cool off!
  • Pamper them with new toys, treats, pet bed, or collar.
  • Take them to a fun filled day at Doggy Daycare or socialize them with the neighbors dogs.
  • Keep them healthy and be sure they have annual check-ups.
  • Make them homemade dog treats.
  • Take them on a car ride.
  • Give them extra belly rubs and hugs.
  • Adopt them a friend from the local shelter.
