May 2012
Greetings!
It's been a busy season of trade shows around the world this Spring. April brought us to the Cake International Cake Decorating and Baking Show in London. I have some photos to share with you below . . . fun was had by all and there were many people anxiously awaiting Satin Ice's arrival in the UK. We're happy to have such an enthusiastic new market of customers. In early May, we attended the Bakery Showcase in Toronto, Canada and enjoyed talking with old acquaintances and meeting many new ones. It's nice to be a part of such a friendly and rewarding industry. CUPCAKE WARS
Sunday, May 6, 2012, Ady Abreu, owner of Ady Cakes LLC in West Reading, PA and Tania Colamarino, owner of Ama Photography in Shillington, PA went to war... Cupcake Wars. They battled it out on the Food Network program against 3 top bakers for a sweet prize of $10,000. With hands and hearts full of passion, they conquered the competition!
Ady and Tania baked 1,000 cupcakes in 2 hours: 4 different flavors with filings, buttercream and decorations. It was their passion to create edible art that set them apart. Satin Ice Fondant acted as a secret ingredient in many of their creations. Pictured here are "Garden Inspired" cupcakes. Chocolate Cupcakes with Mint Icing with a double-stacked fondant flower.

TECHNIQUE/HOW TO
BOWS To create a bow, start with two perpendicular flat strips of fondant crossing the cake.
Add two strips to act as the ends of the bow ribbon.
For the bow itself, cut two even strips, form two loops and create an accordion effect on each end to create a knotted look. Prepare the surface with a little water to adhere the loops.
Press down securely.
Then stuff the loops with tissue to maintain their shape while they dry.
Use another strip to create the knot. Accordion both ends and wrap the center of the two loops.
To finish your bow, gently steam to create a shiny surface.
