April 2012

Greetings!

Cake design provided by:
Ron Ben-Israel

It's the time of year again when cake design shifts with wedding trends. Right now, we are shifting to the bold. 2012 is stepping away from traditional designs and embracing drama. Couples want their personalities reflected in their ceremonial cakes.

Taking a cue from our talented family of cake artists, we have five sure-to-please trends for 2012.

1. Bold Color

2. Topsy Turvy

3. Metallic

4. Personalized Cake Toppers

5. Monograms

Until next time,

Kevin

PANTONE® COLOR OF THE YEAR
For 2012, Pantone® announced Tangerine Tango as the color of the year.  We thought this would be inspiration for bold colors on your next cake.  Tangerine Tango is perfect for the coming months and it is sure to pop on any cake. Try coupling it with previous years' winners for maximum impact.  We love Honeysuckle, Blue Iris, and Turquoise!   To mix colors to match these, download a copy of our Color Mix Guide as a useful reference.

TECHNIQUE/HOW-TO
STRIPES
It may seem like a simple concept, but if you follow these fool-proof steps by Mercedes Strachwsky, you're sure to have a stunning cake.  When making stripes, consistency is important.  Measure and cut all your stripes first and ensure they are the same size.  Then when applying the stripes, use a triangle measuring tool.  This way all your stripes will be perfectly straight and spaced evenly.

THE ANEURYSM AND AVM FOUNDATION - TAAF
The Aneurysm and AVM Foundation (TAAF) is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to bettering the lives, support networks, and medical care of those affected by aneurysms and other vascular malformations of the brain.  They are an all-volunteer organization run by survivors, caregivers and medical professionals and we commend their work.

TAAF is strictly a pro-bono organization with virtually no administrative costs. Their goal is to direct money where it is needed - into research and public education. See the many ways you can help by going to the Get Involved section or Donation section of this website.

CLARK'S ICING SMILEIcing Smiles

Icing Smiles Sometimes siblings of sick kids deserve some special attention too.  Clark's brother, Bradley, was diagnosed in 2006 with neuroblastoma cancer. After five rounds of chemo in Idaho, Bradley traveled to Utah to receive a double stem cell transplant to clean out his bone marrow of any residual cancer. From there, he traveled to New York City to receive further treatment. There it was discovered that Bradley's cancer was not gone and he had to stay for four months for surgery, chemo, radiation, and extensive scans. Currently, Bradley is cancer free and continues to travel to NYC every three months for treatment.

Erin Reeves of Sugar Inspired in Meridian, ID accepted her call to action and created this frightful Ghost Rider cake to celebrate Clark's 6th birthday. Thank you Erin - it is absolutely stunning!
