September 2011
Greetings!
We would like to send out a special congratulations to Ron Ben-Israel for the launch of his new Food Network show, Sweet Genius. It's a whole new concept in dessert competition, with some interesting twists and turns throughout each show. With Ron's reputation as one of the world's finest pastry chefs and cake artists, he has certainly earned the qualification to decide who will be the next Sweet Genius. We thank Ron Ben-Israel Cakes for providing us with the following photos from the show's set and from the premier party hosted by the International Culinary Center, where Ron teaches his craft.
Ron has been a good friend for many years and we're happy for his success. All the best to you, Ron. We'll be watching every episode.
Kind regards,
Kevin

BAKING FOR A CAUSE
CUPCAKES FOR CRITTERS Cupcakes for Critters kicked off September 17th with an elaborate bake sale to support the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Santa Fe, CA. Launching a 3-month long event, retail and at-home bakers came to show off their creative cupcakes. All proceeds of the sale will support orphaned animals. Ro Zinninger, of Ro Z's Sweet Art Studio, was there demonstrating how to fill, ice and top a cupcake with rolled fondant techniques using Satin Ice. BAKE A DIFFERENCE Concern Worldwide is hosting 'Bake a Difference' 17-23 October in the United Kingdom. The event is a fun way to get people together to raise money for the fight against hunger. Satin Ice is a long time supporter of Concern Worldwide, and we love the idea of helping out while showing off your talents as a baker. Visit their website to find out how you can 'BAKE' their day. |
OUR NEWEST PARTNER We are pleased to unveil our new partnership with Vinny Buzzetta, the star of Staten Island Cakes on WEtv. His shop, The Cake Artist is making waves and this 21 year old designer already has an impressive client list including the cast of Broadway's Billy Elliot, Bella magazine and Jersey Shore's, Angelina Pivarnick. Vinny started making cakes when he was fourteen and became the youngest person to ever complete the French Culinary Institute of New York City program, from which he graduated first in his class. Then with the help of his grandfather, "Crazy Joe," Vinny opened The Cake Artist, which is quickly becoming the hottest bakery in Staten Island. Keep an eye on this extraordinary artist. ________________________________________

LATIN TALENTS
We have recently begun collaborations with Anna Ruiz of Art in Cakes, Susana Martinez of Casa Susana and Lourdes Reyes of Flestitodo and Gelart Floral. These notable Latin artists astound us with their remarkable command of color and form.
Anna Ruiz and her company, Art in Cakes, (view Spanish version of website) are synonymous with creativity, responsibility, dedication, innovation and good taste. Art in Cakes provides custom cakes as well as instructional classes. Anna's designs are based on the latest decorating trends worldwide. In Anna's words, she seeks to "re-invent daily". It is the company's mission to teach the use of new techniques and innovations but, more than that, Anna teaches people to show their personalities through their cake designs, expressing feelings and emotions as well as creativity and style. Susana Martinez has a real passion and flair for teaching. She strives to share all her tips with her students and to give them the confidence to start their own business with her experienced guidance. After all, she's transformed Casa Susana (view Spanish version of website) from a small business working out of her kitchen into an internationally recognized bakery and baking school. Susana is a member of ICES and has studied with the finest instructors, such as: Julie Bashore, Colette Peters, Norman Davis, Maritere Alvarado and more. Owner of Flestitodo, where she sold a large array of baking and cake decorating supplies, Lourdes Reyes quickly discovered the popularity of one of her favorite techniques: 3D Gelatin. In response, she created Gelart Floral and now has a catalogue of more than 70 flowers and other designs and figures as well as tools that have improved the process of creating 3D gelatins. Her gelatin designs often appear as tiers in traditional stacked fondant cakes. Offering instruction in this intriguing technique, Lourdes shares the secrets of her trade through course offerings in Mexico City. |
