May 2011

Greetings!

This has been an exciting month for our family of cake friends.

For starters, five of our good friends made Dessert Professional magazine's "Top Ten Cake Artists in North America 2011."  We were delighted to sponsor the article that honored Buddy Valastro, Elisa Strauss, Marina Sousa, Mercedes Strachwsky and Michelle Bommarito. Congratulations to all of the 2011 picks.

Additionally, we're just thrilled to announce the addition of Anna Ruiz, Jacinta Yu, Jean Marie Moffa and Marina Sousa to the Satin Ice rolled fondant family of cake artists.

Until Next Time,

Instructional Classes
Julie Bashore, owner of Julie Bashore's School of Cake Decorating and Confectionery Art, has been busy teaching Satin Ice fondant classes through bakery supply distributors nationwide.  Julie has gained popularity for her style of hands-on cake decorating instruction.  She typically prefers to work with groups of 20-25 students to allow for individual guidance on these specialized techniques.  She artfully demonstrates the secrets to time-saving methods of standardization that have helped many to dramatically increase their bakery profits.

Interested in hosting a Satin Ice class?  We'll give you all the details.  Please call (845) 469-1034 or send us an email at contact@satinfinefoods.com

Top 5 Trends in Wedding Cake Décor

This time of year, wedding bells are the cake decorating industry's metronome, and the tempo is

speeding up.  Brides know what they want and they have high expectations for their ceremonial cake.

We're predicting these sure-to-please trends will delight any bride.

  1. Varying Heights

The drama and quirkiness of varying tier heights pleases the need for individualism that today's bride craves. This unexpected technique can add an element of grandeur on even smaller cakes.

  2. Monochromatic

These designs symbolize a subtle elegance, with the beauty of the design becoming more prevalent as you move closer to the cake.  A monochromatic color scheme is the preference for the 2011 bride who exudes a quiet confidence.  Whether sticking to traditional whites or more contemporary jewel tones, the monochromatic motif is strong this season.

  3. Simple & Elegant Floral Designs

We're seeing a huge trend towards traditional romance. With the royal wedding welcoming the 2011 wedding season, brides are drawn to the symbolic link between the purity of the cake and their marriage. The royal cake included 17 floral designs with interpretive meanings including strength, beauty and innocence, and brides want to incorporate special meaning into their cakes as well. Roses and hydrangeas amongst the favorites, brides want simple and elegant floral designs with traditional English flowers.

  4. Vintage Flair

Drawing inspiration from the past, art deco and vintage 20's themes, combined with bold and flirty accents, are popular trends for the 2011 season. Often, these designs are accompanied by bold colors: teals, blues, greens, pinks and purples among them.

  5. Black & White

Although not a new trend, the high contrast of black and white is still a wedding favorite. This style seems to be a good representation for many brides in symbolizing the marrying of two strong personalities.
