Bank of Saint Lucia Honoured as Good Corporate Citizen

Bank of Saint Lucia has been awarded two major Good Corporate Citizen Awards for 2011 by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB). The ECCB made the announcement at its headquarters in Saint Kitts at a special awards ceremony on 2 November. Bank of Saint Lucia competed against over a dozen other banks in the sub-region and received the awards in the areas of Educational Development and Cultural Development.

These awards acknowledge Bank of Saint Lucia's significant contributions to the socio-economic development of the island through Educational Development via its Guaranteed Student Loan Programme, sponsorship and support of institutions such as CARE and the National Enrichment Learning Programme; major infrastructural assistance, and support for various school programmes island-wide.  The Bank was also recognized for its work in Cultural Development through its support of cultural festivals such as Carnival, Jounen Kweyol, Schools' Art Festival and St. Lucia Jazz; contributions to the School of Art & Design - St. Lucia (SADS) and to other local music, dance and arts academies.

The bank recognizes the support of its valuable customers, shareholders and other partners  without which these awards would not have been possible. Bank of Saint Lucia and its parent company, ECFH, wish to reaffirm their commitment to the socio economic development of St. Lucia.

The Good Corporate Citizen Awards were introduced in 1997 by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank to recognize banks which contribute to the development of the people and communities in which they operate through the implementation, support and participation in sound social responsibility projects.

ECFH Continues "Greedy for Green" Mission

Greedy for Green LogoECFH's Greedy for Green environmental programme continues to support external and internal projects that are aimed at promoting environmental awareness and conservation.  The latest initiative of the ECFH Greedy for Green programme is the involvement in the Forestry Department's National Tree Planting Launch on October 20th 2011.  This activity seeks to encourage public participation in the restoration and reforestation of our natural ecosystem - in commemoration of International Year of Forests.

The nationwide tree planting campaign aims to bolster the natural ecosystem by restoring the forest, river beds and wildlife habitats that were devastated with the passage of Hurricane Tomas. The Greedy for Green team of volunteers stand ready and committed to the post-Tomas restoration and rehabilitation efforts, recognizing the importance of St. Lucia's forests and the critical role they play in our daily lives.

In the coming weeks ECFH's Greedy for Green volunteers will undertake a number of significant voluntary projects including plans to participate in the National Clean Up Campaign slated for November 4th - 6th. ECFH recognizes the tremendous economic and social benefits of keeping St. Lucia green and clean.

ECFH launched 'Greedy for Green' in August 2010 to demonstrate its real and genuine appetite for green - 'green' in terms of making operations more eco-friendly and by extension contributing to the sustainable development of Saint Lucia. Some successful internal projects included double-sided printing, using recycled paper and eco-friendly items, conducting an energy audit and using LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting. While some of the past external activities include tree planting projects, beach clean-ups, beautifying the town of Soufriere and the city of Castries, rainwater harvesting projects and teaching environmental practices to youth, among other initiatives including the Boys Training Centre and the St. Lucia Blind Welfare Association clean up campaigns.
