EC Global Prepares Property Owners

EC Global Insurance, the insurance arm of the ECFH Group, took the important initiative of preparing homeowners for the hurricane season by hosting a special seminar for property owners in July. The key objective was to educate participants on the benefits of proper insurance coverage, particularly during this period. EC Global Insurance wants to start a national conversation which would not only assist the insurance industry, but also help clients avoid some of the life-changing Hurricane Tomas incidents. The seminar took place at the National Insurance Center's Conference Facility and attracted over 70 participants.

According to EC Global's CEO, Mr. Leathon Khan, quite often, policyholders are not aware of the extent of their coverage and the various clauses within the policies. He pointed out that emerging out of the Hurricane Tomas experience, both insurers and the insured learnt valuable and in some cases, rather costly lessons about adequate insurance coverage. One of the most common problems is a misunderstanding of what a client's policy actually covers, as opposed to what they think it does.

The seminar on protecting property from natural disasters coincides with the hurricane season, which officially started June 1st and ends on November 30th. Homeowners were grateful for the information provided by EC Global Insurance which was joined by its sister subsidiary, Bank of Saint Lucia and corporate partner, Caribbean Metals Limited, who also presented valuable tips on protecting property from hurricanes.

Bank of Saint Lucia Paves the Way to Education

Bank of Saint Lucia Limited is again pioneers in the local commercial banking arena with the launch of an innovative education savings plan for Saint Lucians. Edu-Start, an education savings plan designed for the specific purpose of saving for an individual's post-secondary school education, is the latest savings product to be offered by Bank of Saint Lucia. Edu-Start was launched on Friday, July 29th at the Palm Haven Hotel with customers, students and staff members in attendance.

Assistant General Manager of Bank of Saint Lucia Limited, Ms Joanna Charles, who spoke at Friday's launch, stressed the importance of saving for various needs in life, with a child's education being no exception. Ms. Charles stated that "The idea of an education saving plan is certainly not novel on the international scene as many international financial institutions offer them; however it is new to the local banking industry as none of the domestic banks currently offer this type of product. So once again Bank of Saint Lucia is proud to be a leader in the domestic financial industry."

Managed by the Bank of Saint Lucia's Wealth & Asset Management Division, Edu-Start also has an investment component which reaps real financial gains for account holders such as higher interest rates and returns on funds invested.  Parents, guardians, godparents or family friends can sign up for an Edu-Start account for a beneficiary at any one of the five Bank of Saint Lucia branches island-wide.

ECFH's 10th Anniversary

ECFH's 10th Anniversary-A Celebration of Strength & Solidity

The East Caribbean Financial Holding Company Ltd., (ECFH), has been celebrating a significant milestone in its organizational life-its tenth anniversary of operations. On July 1st 2001, the then National Commercial Bank (NCB), and the sole development bank, the Saint Lucia Development Bank (SLDB), merged thereby establishing ECFH. The rationale for the merger was to provide a suite of financial services and facilities all under one umbrella giving customers premium service and convenience. The ECFH Group has since emerged as a leading financial conglomerate with formidable local and regional presence on the commercial landscape realizing its vision of 'Global growth from local roots'.

The company celebrated its 10th anniversary with a month-long schedule of activities that included Customer Appreciation Day; a thanksgiving celebration, especially for staff that also showcased an exciting staff talent show; and a series of publicity events that included a media campaign complete with radio, television and print advertisements. A special television feature was also produced that looked at the evolution of the company over the last decade. Additionally, ECFH's flagship subsidiary, Bank of Saint Lucia, hosted two significant events: the official opening of the island's first supermarket banking service, Bank of Saint Lucia Express at Mega J, CFL's wholesale facility; and the launch of Edu Start, an education savings and investment plan which is the first of its kind to be offered by a local commercial bank.

ECFH is now the parent company of 7 subsidiaries when in May, it officially welcomed its newest subsidiary, Bank of St Vincent and the Grenadines, extending its reach into the OECS region. It has certainly been an active and fruitful decade for ECFH and the Group is poised to achieve even more in the coming ten years.
