EC Global Insurance CEO Shares Tomas Lessons with Chamber

The power to Bounce Bank quickly from disaster is in your hands!

Chief Executive Officer of EC Global Insurance, Mr. Leathon Khan, addressed the 126th AGM of the Saint Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture. Held on Tuesday, November 30th at The Royal Saint Lucian Hotel in Rodney Bay, the event was attended by a wide cross-section of the Chamber's membership. The AGM's date coincided with the official end of the Atlantic hurricane season and approximately one month after the passage of Hurricane Tomas. Mr. Khan's presentation focused on the effect and implications of the hurricane for the local insurance industry.

According to the EC Global CEO, the insurance sector "remains strong and resilient" in the aftermath of Tomas and insurance companies have been honouring claims so that people can rebuild their lives. He pointed out however, that Tomas revealed certain issues that insurance firms have been cautioning persons about for some time such as not purchasing enough insurance coverage for their property and its contents. Khan also emphasized that people should ensure that they read and understand the terms and conditions of their policy fully so that they know the extent of their coverage. Therefore, they will be aware of what and how much they can claim from their insurer in the event of a disaster.

The implementation of building codes, proper development of residential settlements and appropriate land use were some of the recommendations made by EC Global's CEO which he felt that government needed to undertake. These measures would mitigate the devastating physical, social and economic impact of disasters such as Tomas on small islands such as Saint Lucia and its OECS neighbours. He said that the insurance sector could also play its part by encouraging more public awareness on the importance of insurance and its critical role in safeguarding against risk and being prepared for the unexpected such as Hurricane Tomas.

ECFH Makes Donation to Cancer Society

ECFH Makes Donation to Cancer Society

In its first official partnership with the Saint Lucia Cancer Society, the East Caribbean Financial Holding Company (ECFH) has raised $1500.00 for that organization and its work. ECFH had purchased 700 pink eco-friendly tote bags bearing the message 'Live, Love, Believe in the Cure'. All the proceeds from the sale of these bags to customers and staff at a nominal price went to the Cancer Society for the continuation of its programme of awareness and assistance to those suffering from the disease.

The company has always supported the Cancer Society through its staff members who purchase the traditional pink ribbons and t-shirts supplied by the Society. However, this year, ECFH's purchase of the tote bags represented the company's interest in helping to promote cancer awareness and prevention. The eco-friendly tote bags were also ECFH's commitment to environmental protection under the umbrella of its recently launched Greedy for Green campaign.

ECFH plans to continue this collaboration with the Saint Lucia Cancer Society and other key partners such as Super J Supermarkets in the drive to promote cancer awareness and prevention among all Saint Lucians. This is demonstrative of the company's commitment to enrich the quality of life of the people whom it serves.
