Bank of Saint Lucia Promotes Proper Money Management
As part of its commitment to the National Enrichment Learning Programme (NELP) and financial literacy, Bank of Saint Lucia recently conducted a series of presentations on saving and budgeting for the adult learners enrolled in the programme. The participants were taught the basics of saving, the various types of savings accounts available and the associated benefits. They were also instructed on what constituted a budget and how to prepare one for their own households. The presentations were held throughout the month of May.
Bank of Saint Lucia gives financial support to NELP centres in Banse la Grace, Jacmel, Canaries and Belle Vue to the tune of $10,000.00 annually. This series of presentations were conceived by the bank's Corporate Communications Unit as a way of supplementing this financial support and spreading the benefits of financial literacy. These presentations are Bank of Saint Lucia's way of ensuring that people at all levels of learning are aware of the proper money management.
The students at each of the centres were very appreciative of the knowledge shared. One of the participants at the Canaries centre pointed out that this type of information though important, was not normally presented to adults and so this was a good undertaking by Bank of Saint Lucia.
NELP Coordinator, Mrs. Lucy Joseph thanked Bank of Saint Lucia not only for its financial support but also for initiatives such as these financial literacy presentations. She felt that the presentation on savings and budgeting was essential to the learners, especially at this time with the ongoing recession which is easing but is not over. She also implored the learners to take full advantage of the programme which through the bank's sponsorship was provided to them free of charge.
Two officials from Bank of Saint Lucia conducted the presentations, Credit Risk Analyst, Ms Rufina Charlery and Manager of the Agri-Business Services Unit, Mr. Emmanuel Haynes and it was coordinated by the bank's Corporate Relations Officer, Terrence Albert. |
