When Children have Challenging Behaviors

ZERO TO THREE has developed a set of resources designed to help you better understand and cope with some of the typical

challenges parents face in the early years: aggression, defiance, inconsolable crying, children who are slow-to-warm-up, and sleep.

Dear Friends and Families of the IWSA,

Summer is upon us and we have a few more weeks until WAGR Weekend!  The fundraising committee has been quite busy preparing our plan for this upcoming year and we will have many exciting activities to share with you.  We are kicking off this season with an easy way for you to help support IWSA with a 50/50 raffle!

  raffle ticket

The 50/50 raffle is an easy way for you to support the IWSA and have a chance to win a cash prize!  With each $5.00 donation you have a chance to win half of the total earnings from the raffle. So the more tickets we sell the larger the winnings!  The committee has set a goal of 200 tickets which would provide $500 for IWSA and $500 for the lucky winner.

Help us support grants for families wanting to attend WAGR weekend and activities and education for WAGR families.  You can email your family and friends, post the raffle on Facebook, or be old-fashioned and go door-to-door!  Everyone loves a raffle and the opportunity to win!

To download tickets visit: http://www.wagr.org/sizzlingsummerraffle.html

The drawing will take place at WAGR Weekend in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday, July 16th, but the winner does not need to be present to win.

If you have questions or need something clarified, contact Vanessa at vrichter82@gmail.com or Leslie at Lelynnv@aol.com

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Vanessa Richter

NIH Study Coordinator Update

Amanda Huey
Amanda Huey
The study coordinator for the WAGR Syndrome/11p Deletion Studies at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland is changing.  We send our best wishes and thanks to Shannon Fuhr, who spent two years working with Dr. Joan Han and many of our families.  Shannon will be starting graduate school at Towson Univeristy in Baltimore, Maryland this summer to pursue her goal of becoming a physician's assistant.  Shannon hopes to work in the future with children with physical and developmental disabilities.  We hope to see Shannon at WAGR Weekend events in the future.

While we bid farewell to Shannon, we warmly welcome Amanda Huey, who has been working with Dr. Han for the past year in a different capacity.  Amanda graduated in June 2010 with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry and Economics from Williams College.  She ran cross country at Williams and volunteered at a local elementary school.  Amanda says she is excited now to transition to the WAGR studies and is looking forward to meeting and working with our families.

If you have questions or need information about the study, you can contact Amanda at amanda.huey@nih.gov

Through research, support and the sharing of information, our hope is to improve the quality of life for individuals with WAGR/11p Deletion Syndrome.

Sincerely,

Annie Prusakiewicz
