Meghan's Moment

Meghan-new
Meghan Urbon, Executive Director
Happy New Year!  I hope everyone is able to look back on last year, both business and personal, and be able to take away all the positive moments and reflect on any negatives that can be altered in this new year.

We had a very successful 2010 year as a chamber with over 45 new members, new events and new opportunities!

We have been sending out our 2011 invoices for the January renewals this month.  With the invoices, there will also be information about sponsorship opportunities and committee involvement.  One of the key phrases I heard many times last year was "I know I need to get more involved."  And that's exactly it: you get out what you put into the chamber, and we are here to help!  Looking ahead, we have our first half of the year booked with some outstanding speakers for your business needs!  We are also currently planning our 2nd Annual Chamber Night at the Races with the Kent Area Chamber on Janaury 22nd.  Also, a new and improved member appreciation reception and Fall business event are in the works!

Finally, many people like to join the chamber for access to health benefits and member savings opportunities.  Please see this Benefits Matrix to get an idea of just how many benefits you have access to as a chamber member.  Also, at the end of this newsletter, our own chamber members offer special discounts exclusively to other chamber members.  There's no reason not to get involved!  I look forward to our continued growth and success in 2011!

  Farewell from the Chief
chief

Dear Chamber,

Please accept this as a notification of my resignation from the Board of Directors effective January 1, 2011 after serving in this position for ten years.

I wish to take this occassion to extend my gratitude to the Chamber for the opportunity to promote the city and all of the businesses and organizations within.  I have enjoyed my tenure with the Streetsboro Area Chamber of Commerce and appreciate having the experience to be a part of such a worthwhile organization.

While I look forward to the opportunity retirement will bring me, it will dishearten me to be leaving this organization.  I would truly like to continue to contribute my time to the Chamber as I hope to continue to serve the city in some capacity.  I do not want to abandon the many personal and professional relationships that I have developed over the years.  I wish all, as well as the Chamber, good fortune.

Sincerely,

Richard Taiclet, Streetsboro Chief of Police

P.S. I'll stop doing anything, I'll just stop getting paid for it!

Nominate a Real Hero Today!

Do You Know a Hero?

Nominate Your Hero for a Red Cross "REAL HEROES" Award

Ravenna, OH - Do You Know a Hero? Your neighbor who dived into a frozen lake to pull a drowning child to safety? A police officer who pulled a driver from a burning car following an accident? A fellow worker who used an AED to revive a victim of cardiac arrest? A dog which alerted its family to a fire?

If you know of someone whose courageous act saved the life of another, please nominate him or her for the Red Cross Real Heroes Award.

The American Red Cross of Summit and Portage Counties is currently seeking nominations for its 2011 Real Hero Awards and it needs the community's help to identify local heroes. Local residents are encouraged to nominate individuals whose lifesaving actions are deserving of special recognition.

To submit a nomination, individuals can visit the Red Cross web site at www.summitcounty.redcross.org and click on the "Real Heroes" icon. Nominations can be accepted online or through the use of a mail-in/fax-in nomination form that can be downloaded from the website or obtained from the Red Cross offices at 705 Oakwood Street in Ravenna.

As the community leader in emergency preparedness and response, the American Red Cross annually presents the Real Hero Awards to those residents of Portage County who have acted courageously and selflessly to save the life of another. Often at great risk to their own personal safety, comfort, and well-being, these ordinary individuals have acted in an extraordinary manner in a time of emergency - when mere seconds meant the difference between life and death. Because of these Real Heroes, tragedies were averted and lives were saved.

The deadline for nominations is January 14, 2011. The hero event may have happened anywhere, but must have occurred in 2010. Nominees must reside or be employed in Portage County.

Because their actions embody the ideals, principles and mission of the Red Cross - to prepare for and respond to emergencies - the 2011 recipients of the Real Heroes Award will be honored during a special recognition breakfast by the Red Cross on Saturday morning, March 12, 2011 at the Bertram Hotel and Conference Center in Aurora. For more information about the event or to reserve a seat, contact the American Red Cross at 330-296-9991.
