April Chamber Luncheon
Introduction to Information Technology Infrastructure
(aka "what are all those boxes, and why are those lights blinking?")
Today, business owners find themselves solidly in the Information Age, like it or not. But with advanced technology all around us, who has the expertise to put the necessary boxes in the proper locations and plug all the wires into all the right places? Introducing Bob Coppedge from Simplex-IT to the rescue! In this informative session, Bob will explain, in the simplest of terms, the basics of designing, building and maintaining a computer network for your business. He'll offer tips, accepted business 'best practices' and offer suggestions on where to get additional help. He'll even answer questions! This is one presentation you won't want to miss.
Networking begins at 11:30, with lunch served at 12:00pm. Price for members is $15, for non-members is $20.

Consumer Support for Small Businesses
By: Chief Richard Taiclet |
 |
For the first time, small businesses may now use the Ohio Attorney General's consumer complaint hot line to pursue scammers and deceptive vendors.
Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray is inviting all small businesses to take advantage of the consumer prote tion division that until recently was reserved for individuals. Cordray's office has partnered with state trade organizations and chambers of commerce to begin steering small business problems to its hot line.
As quoted by Paula Schleis in the Akron Beacon Journal. Cordray stated, "For Ohio's economoy to properly sustain our families and communities, we have to properly support and grow small businesses." He said part of his motivation is small businesses are the path to economic recovery.
Small businesses that believe they have been the victim of an unfair practice can call 800-282-0515 or visit: http://www.OhioAtto neygeneral.gov/busine ss

She also offered some interactive activites on ways to instantly relieve yourself from stress which can be used at home, on the road or in the workplace
The event was sponsored by Classic Kia of Streetsboro.

Meghan's Moment... Wow, So Much Has Happened!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank and welcome every returning Chamber member and members joining the Chamber for the first time. We had a very successful start to 2010, and we would like to keep the positive momentum moving forward. In just a few short months, we have had our first combined Night at the Races event with the Kent Area Chamber of Commerce. We've had three Monthly Networking luncheons, one Women in Business Luncheon, five Coffee 'n Contacts meetings, two Membership Meetings, one Re-Grand Opening/Open House, and it's still March! As you can tell, we are a very active Chamber and there are plenty of networking opportunities constantly occurring. Have you been part of them? If you haven't been able to make an event or would just like to keep your networking going, we have some great opportunities on the horizon.
We are currently planning our 3rd Annual Health Fair, an April Monthly luncheon, an After Hours gathering, a Senior Appreciation luncheon, a Re-Grand Opening, a June Monthly luncheon, a July Women in Business luncheon and of course continued Coffee 'n Contacts. Don't forget to Save the date for our 12th Annual Golf Outing on Friday July 23rd at Raccoon Hill Golf Club!
There are many opportunities to get involved in networking, events and committees to meet new people and grow your business. Please encourage your colleagues to join our Chamber to create even more opportunities for your businesses and for fellow members. On Wednesday March 10th, Chamber members and new guests packed the classrooms of Bohecker College to learn about the newest trends going on with social networking and calmed their fears about how to use the tools for social networking no matter how tech savvy they were. Andy Halko (above) is the CEO of Insivia and demonstrated the trends rises and falls with a graphic portrayal. This luncheon was set up as networking event and membership drive. Food was prepared by Susan Miller of Miller Catering. Though a large crowd, much quality networking took place. The next monthly luncheon will be Wednesday April 14th at The Rusty Nail. Speaker: Bob Coppedge Sponsor: Simplex-IT. RSVP today!
Joel of Bohecker College talks to the group as the luncheon sponsor about the benefits and training courses Bohecker has to offer to students to best prepare them for future employment. |
Streetsboro High School Scholarship Fund
Donations/Senior Luncheon Sponsors Greatly Appreciated
Dear Streetsboro Area Chamber Community: As we are all aware, education is very important to both our past, present and future communities. As a business organization within the Streetsboro Area, it is our hope to promote education among the youth of Streetsboro in order for them to strive for both higher education and a future career.
We are asking you as our Chamber members and supporters of this community to be a part of this hope. We have two major opportunities to provide hope for our children of Streetsboro. Each year, the Streetsboro Area Chamber of Commerce arranges a "Senior Appreciation Luncheon." It is set up to provide every graduating senior with a 3.5 GPA or better an opportunity to have lunch in a professional environment among local business professionals and with the students' peers to listen to an enlightening speech and walk away with a certificate of achievement and a few door prizes.
This year, our luncheon will be held on Wednesday May 5th at St. Joan of Arc Parish. We are asking each chamber member to sponsor at least one student for $15. You can sponsor more if you are able, but we also invite our membership and parents of students to attend this luncheon to serve as an example and mentor in interacting with the students that day. Last year, we celebrated the achievements of over 66 Streetsboro High School seniors. The students' feedback was very positive, and we know this year will follow the success of last year!
Finally, unfortunately last year we were unable to contribute a scholarship award given in previous years to a student pursuing a career in business due to lack of funding. This year, we would like to be able to present one scholarship to a deserving student. We are asking for your help to contribute any amount you are able to put toward our scholarship fund. We thank you for sharing a common vision of hope for our students; the leaders of tomorrow! Most Sincerely, The 2010 Scholarship Chamber Committee
