Holiday Trivia

"It's a Wonderful Life" appears on TV more often than any other holiday movie.

"Rudolph" was actually created by Montgomery Ward in the late 1930's for a holiday promotion. The rest is history.

"The Nutcracker" is the most famous Christmas ballet.

"Jingle Bells" was first written for Thanksgiving and then became one of the most popular Christmas songs.

If you received all of the gifts in the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas," you would receive 364 gifts.

The poinsettia plant was brought into the United States from Mexico by Joel Poinsett in the early 1800's.

Holly berries are poisonous.

Mistletoe was chosen as Oklahoma's state flower in 1893 and later changed to the state floral emblem.

In 1843, "A Christmas Carol" was written by Charles Dickens in just six weeks.

The first state to recognize the Christmas holiday officially was Alabama.

Christmas became a national holiday in America on June, 26, 1870.

More diamonds are sold around Christmas than any other time of the year.

In Mexico, wearing red underwear on New Year's Eve is said to bring new love in the upcoming year.

Meghan's Moment...
Meghan Urbon  It's the most wonderful time of the year and everyone seems to give a little extra...  An extra pause when passing by a Salvation Army donation stop, an extra card to wish someone well and tell them you care, an extra hug to demonstrate your embracing love, an extra smile to share the warmth of your heart during this season, an extra gift to bring joy to someone else, an extra effort to go out of your way to perform a kind gesture.  Aside from the hustle and bustle, it really is the most wonderful time of the year!  But why is it so isolated?  I've heard many people say during the holiday season, "It's Christmas, of course I'll do that."  It seems the magic of the season inspires everyone to be on their best behavior and perhaps be uncharacteristic of their daily habits during the year.  This season brings out much of the "good" in others, but I've always wondered why it cannot carry through year round.  We seem to "get through" the rest of the year losing awareness, sensitivity and good will to others out of selfishness and lack of care.  Perhaps we could all take a moment to pause in this season and notice the "something extra" that we are currently doing and see if we can't just carry that out all the time.  If we can find the ways now to make time for the "extras", there's no reason in our businesses and personal lives we cannot do the same all the time.

On behalf of the Streetsboro Area Chamber of Commerce and Board of Directors, we would like to wish everyone an "extra" special holiday and happy and safe New Year!  See you in 2010!

Our December Networking Luncheon yielded 45 guests in attendance at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Streetsboro.  Guests enjoyed pasta courtesy of Teresa's Pizza.  National Speaker and Business Coach, Ron Finkelstein spoke on the Platinum Rule.  He educated guests on how to recognize character traits in other individuals and be able to adapt and identify with them in order to best relate and be successful in business endeavors.

BtoBWelcome New Member!

BtoB Connect is a proven business-to-business networking system designed to generate more qualified referrals for your company. BtoB Connect was created out of frustration with other networking groups. The founders were looking for a group that consisted of qualified, business-to-business representatives; an exclusive, confidential way to start sharing contacts and building trustworthy relationships. And that's why they designed BtoB Connect. Their system is proven to maximize networking time, minimize ineffective cold-marketing, and condense the sales process and associated costs.
Our refreshingly effective process is rooted in relationship building and generating referrals-the most effective way to close a sale. In fact, studies show that you have an 85% to 95% chance of closing a sale through a personal referral as opposed to 5% with cold-marketing.

Remember Those in Need
By Chief Taiclet

It's the holiday season again, and time to remember those less fortunate.  Like everyone, you have many things in your life for which you are thankful.  And you may want to show your appreciation for what you have by making a "gift" to a charitable organization.  If you do, both you and the charitable party can come out ahead.  Of course, it's no surprise that 2009 has been a pretty tough year, with most of us are feeling the effects of the economy in one way or another.

You may feel that you can't really afford to make charitable donations right now.  But there's probably never been a more urgent need for these donations, as the suffering economy has led to a decline in contributions for many charities.  Remember, your charitable "gift" can provide you with some distinct economic advantages.  Specifically, by making charitable contributions, you can gain some tax benefits.  Please don't forget to remember those in need this holiday season.

On a personal note of rememberance, I would like you to be cognizant of "Project Blue Light", and would encourage you to illuminate a blue light for the coming holiday season.  By placing one blue light in a window of your home or office, you'll be showing support for police officers killed in the line of duty, their families and those who continue to work America's streets.  The color blue is symbolic of peace.  By displaying a blue light, you will be sending a dual message - that you support America's peacekeepers and that you hope the coming year will be a year of peace.

Eat 'n Park...Why not Park n' Eat?

The secret to Eat'n Park's original success was innovation. The original carhop concept was developed by Mr. Hatch, who understood in 1949 that cars meant the future and that the Pittsburgh area needed a restaurant to capture the spirit of the times.

It also needed a name that matched its function. Logically, a customer parked first then ate -- either in or out of the restaurant. However, in the late 1940's, "Park & Eat" was as common a sight as "Drive Thru" is today and could not be copyrighted.

In a brainstorm, Hatch and company decided to reverse it -- to Eat'n Park. The catchy name stuck, so much that while the once everywhere "Park & Eat" signs have virtually disappeared from American highways, "Eat'n Park" remains a tri-state tradition, even though the name no longer describes the restaurant's dining style.

Our Mission

Based on our belief that Eat'n Park guests run our business, we will strive in everything we do to satisfy our customers first. We will continue to meet and exceed their expectations and adhere to our traditions of serving good quality food at reasonable prices and providing friendly attentive service in clean, pleasant family restaurants.

To consistently support our guests' present needs and quickly identify and adapt to their changing needs, we will work hard to retain and recruit a diverse workforce of friendly employees with a good compensation package, comfortable working conditions and excellent training and advancement opportunities, thereby helping them to realize their personal goals while working together as a team to achieve our corporate goals.

Our goal is to serve an ever increasing number of satisfied guests and achieve a growth rate in sales and earnings of 10% to 20% a year in order to ensure prosperity for our employees and shareholders. Realizing this rate of growth will depend on the character of our people, their desire to be the best at what they do, and their ability to work with others on the Eat'n Park team to successfully meet and exceed our customers' expectations.
