Upcoming Seminar for Dentists Only
| |
A report performed by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners in 2008 revealed a loss of $994 billion dollars due to fraud by employees. This is a staggering amount of money lost by businesses, which averages out to approximately $2.7 billion dollars every single day, and dentistry is not immune.
Because of this, the SCDA Member Benefits Group has set up a seminar that will cover not only this topic, but personnel management law as well.
The date of this seminar is Friday, September 30, 2011. Seating is limited. Registration is set for 8:00 a.m. while the seminar is scheduled to run from 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Considering the topics of discussion, it is open to dentists and their spouses only.
The cost is $75 for SCDA member dentists and their spouses if they wish to attend. The cost for non-SCDA member dentists and their spouses is $150. Checks are to be made to the SCDA and participants wishing to pay via a credit card can do so by visiting www.scda.org.
Four (4) hours of Practice Management/Patient Relations continuing education will be provided for attending.
Register today to ensure you will be in attendance!

IRS Regulation - Section 6050W
|
At the beginning of 2011, the IRS put into effect Section 6050W for all businesses, including government services and non-profits that accept credit card, debit card or ACH payments. This mandate requires all merchant acquiring entities, including TransFirst, (who is the preferred provider of the SCDA for card processing,) to file information reports with the IRS. To accomplish this, TransFirst must validate and report back to the IRS each merchant's business tax identification number (TIN) and legal business name and address as they appear on the merchant's W-9 form. Some of the most important dates are as follows: - A reminder was sent in May 2011 statements informing merchants to notify TransFirst of their TIN.
- All throughout 2011, TransFirst is continually reviewing data; merchants that are still not validated will receive quarterly reminders in their merchant statements.
- During the fourth quarter of 2011, merchants that are still not validated will be contacted via e-mail and/or telephone regarding the need for this.
- Come November all merchants will receive statement inserts again reminding them that W-9 information must be kept up-to-date in TransFirst's records.
Feel Free to contact Jayne Handrahan with TransFirst at 847-726-2324 or via email at jhandrahan@transfirst.com with any questions.
