30 Foot Fall Leads to Fractured Pelvis, Ankles and Wrist

By now you have probably heard of the partnership between the SCDA and MedjetAssist, who is exclusively endorsed for its medical evacuation and repatriation services.  Below is yet another experience of a MedjetAssist member that you may find to be an interesting read as I did.  Keep in mind while his MedjetAssist membership was only $250, SCDA members receive additional discounts totaling over 20% off of this already low membership fee.  Follow this link to learn more.

By Roy Berger

Medjet President/CEO

"It was really fast and really terrifying. A total surprise. All I kept thinking was, 'how am I going to break the fall?'" David duChemin, world renowned professional photographer and Medjet member is lucky to be alive. The last two people that fell from the identical spot were not as lucky.

duChemin, 39, from Vancouver, Canada makes a living taking pictures. He has published three best-selling books and is well known for his work as a photographer for advocacy and humanitarian groups around the world. He has been in some of the most dangerous places one can imagine with camera in tow. This particular evening, April 23 just past, David was in the relative sanctity of Tuscany, Italy mentoring a class of eight students. During his 'spare' time, Mr. duChemin teaches photo shops around the world and on this night his students from Canada, Norway, Austria and the United States had just finished dinner and were walking back to their quarters.

They strolled past a wall that overlooks a canal that runs through Pisa. As the class sat on the wall, which according to David had the feel and appeal of a lover's lane, our Medjet member wanted to memorialize the view on film. As he stood on the wall ready to photograph, his ankle suddenly rolled. "I'm not a novice at this type of thing especially in some of the places I've been. I have experience as a rock climber and there certainly was enough of a ledge to support me but my ankle just gave way. I fell about 30 feet. Luckily, I landed on my feet but hit the ground with incredible impact. I later learned the last two people that fell from that same ledge were not as lucky as I was," duChemin lamented. PCI Compliance - Practice Card Processing

PCI compliance is something you've heard a lot about in the recent past. Probably the most important aspect of PCI compliance that you need to understand is that it is required of all merchants that accept, process, transmit or store payment cards.

The SCDA Member Benefit vendor, TransFirst Heath Services, has worked terminal upgrades and other projects with many of you over the past few years and it's very likely (if you are presently processing with TransFirst) that you are in fact compliant already.  The requirement for CERTIFICATION is now the next formal step that must be made.  TransFirst designed a plan that received approval from Visa/MasterCard for the validation of their merchants and you will begin receiving information reminding your practice of this again soon.

There is a quarterly fee involved, but it is very competitive with the market place and you can even reduce it by almost 50% by completing a questionnaire for TransFirst.

To reduce this fee, simply visit www.compliance101.com/PCI and click on the prompt to take the

Self-Assessment Questionnaire.  You will see a login screen.  Your username is your merchant number, located in the top right-hand corner of your monthly statement.  Your password for this initial visit is compliance101; you will be prompted to change the password upon your first login.  After you login, follow the instructions to fill in the questionnaire.  Based on equipment and type of business, some merchants may be required to pass a quarterly network security scan of their systems. This will be determined during the self-assessment process.

Again, you will soon receive this information within a future processing statement from TransFirst, so be sure to keep an eye out for it and feel free to contact your TransFirst representative at jhandrahan@transfirst.com in the meantime with any questions.

As always, contact me at 1-800-327-2598, ext. 103 with any questions or visit us at www.scda.org

Sincerely,
