You may recall that in late 2010, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) notified you that effective February 1, 2011, the emergency adult dental program would be eliminated. The SCDA and its lobby team led by Mr. Richard Davis have made every effort possible to try and prevent this from occurring, but all the proposed cuts which also include Hospice, Vision, and a host of others are still being cut. Numerous letters have been mailed and numerous meetings have been held. The SCDA even testified before the House Ways and Means subcommittee on Wednesday, January 26 as to why the elimination of this program would not be beneficial. As of today, Monday, January 31, 2011, the plan has not changed and all adult emergency services will be eliminated tomorrow, Tuesday, February 1. The new DHHS Director, Tony Keck, is reviewing all proposed cuts, but at this time, we do not know what action, if any, he will take. Do note that the children's program has not changed and those patients are covered through the month of their 21st birthday.
