We are thrilled to have a special "Girl Power Guest" who truly embodies our theme for this season and is making a difference in her community and across the nation!

Alana 2Alana Jones, the 13 year old co-founder of SunkissedGirlz (www.sunkissedgirlz.com) a great new online community for girls will be joining us to chat about how she and her mom, Yanique Redwood, created this wonderful new online community for girls!  Alana and her mom created this community  in response to the lack of media (i.e., books, television shows, Websites, magazines) designed to meet the unique needs of Black girls, particularly needs around caring for and Adriane and karastyling natural hair. Alana and her mom found that many magazines out there were not geared toward girls that looked like Alana and questioned how the self esteem of girls could flourish when none of the girls looked like her.  So, they decided to create something for Alana and girls like her!  This is what social change and making a difference is all about, no matter what your age is!

Girls for A change
Proud to Announce Partnership with National Organizations:

Girls For A Change & Pine Sol!

G.E.M.S/Jewels Empowerment Group will partner with Girls For A Change to launch it's first Girls Action Team in Georgia with generous funding from Pine-SolŪ.  Girls For A Change (GFC) is a national organization that empowers thousands of teen girls to create and lead social change. GFC provides girls with professional female role models, leadership training and the inspiration to work together in teams to solve persistent societal problems in their communities.  Starting in February 2010 we will be putting together a team of girls who want to be change agents in their community!  This team will meet for six weeks tacking a social change issue and implement solutions in their very own communities!  We are thrilled to bring this program to the girls in our group and our community.  We are seeking girls ages 9-17 with a passion to empower to be a part of this life changing project!  Sign up to be a part of our Girl Action Team at our Kickoff Celebration on January 30th! For general info about Girls For A Change and our our Atlanta Action Team page on the GFC website visit: http://www.girlsforachange.org/national/atlblog or reply to this email or call 404-477-4082.
