Run a Facebook Ad.
Similar to Google Adwords, essentially you are "bidding for clicks" and can set a daily max for your campaign. What do I like about facebook ads? The ability to select your target market. What I didn't like is limited options for a landing page when my ad is clicked. As far as I could tell, the only options were to pages within the Facebook business page. Maybe there is a way to hard code around this and have the link go to a web page outside of Facebook, but I guess it's not a big deal. If you can get the "likes" on Facebook you can then target your fans with posts containing other links. Below is a look at the details of a client campaign:
Demographics We were able to narrow down the obvious parameters such as location, gender and age. To that add pyschographic information and we have a very tight target market. Once we defined the most ideal customer, Facebook tells us "This ad targets 6,180 users".
Here are a few of our actual selections in Facebook: - who live in Alberta and are between the ages of 18 and 40 inclusive
- who are male and like Motocross
- who are not already connected to Thorn Valley Ranch Raceway & Recreation
Design Ok, so this is one area that is quite limited, and I will admit, for the sake of a sticking to a low budget, I essentially just plugged in a photo and then focused on writing a catchy message to take full advantage of the 90 characters afforded me. Our plan is to track the ad for a couple of weeks with this relatively "safe" message, and then switch it with bolder messages and monitor variations to response in subsequent campaigns. Cost Based on a suggested bid of $0.50 for clicks, we set the campaign budget at $5 per day for two weeks. After two days, we tracked 52 clicks for $10.42. At this point, the number of fans had increased by 30 people, so the "cost per like" was translating at a rate of $0.35, not bad considering that all of these people are VERY qualified prospects. Reach What I really love is the ability to track the campaign in real time. I will even admit a small addiction. The best part? We can change the message at any time. Here's a breakdown of the campaign reach after a couple of days:
- Campaign Reach (number of people who have seen the ad) 2,223
- Frequency (average number of times each person saw the ad) 8.3
- Social Reach (people who saw the ad along with a friend who already likes the page) 200
- Actions (number of people taking action within 24 hrs of seeing the ad; Facebook shows you the exact action for further tracking ability) 164
- Clicks (number of people who clicked on the ad) 52
 In a nutshell, for the cost of it, there really aren't any "cons" to running a Facebook Ad IF your goal is simply to create awareness. Send me an email if you're interested in a quote for your campaign, it's really quite affordable.
