Rick West
Wow. It has been a while. I left for the East Coast a few days after the last published issue 8-17 and did not get home till October 3. There was a drive to Chicago with a wonderful time at the J Class Nationals hosted by the Chicago MYC. They did a great job and the racing was a lot of fun with 13 entries.
Then it was off on my fall trek home with the racing gear across the plains, the Rockies, the Columbia Gorge and Crater Lake to San Francisco. It was a great trip till I saw the pile on my desk. Back to reality.
Now with our houseboat and summer home nearing her ordeals in dry dock for normal big boat hauling and service, you will start to see more of our class communications and a look at the future.

I am sad to report that Uncle Frank has not been well for over a month with medical care mostly at home. He and I have been communicating but he is not able to perform his services and functions for the class, as he has for years. He is my friend and right hand man and very much depended upon. Please keep Frank in your thoughts, karma or your own mojo toward feeling better soon. It may be subtle but all of you will begin to miss his oversee of the class and RC model sailing.

Class Business Information

The New Year

It will be a new year and a different one. David Brawner has been elected President of the AMYA. This will bring new ways in management and administrative function to the organization. This will filter down to you at the lake little by little being noted in your enjoyment in RC model sailing. Get used to hearing from the AMYA frequently and about things for you as a members.

Several people are stepping up in the class with higher involvement to fill the void during Uncle Frank's absence.

Staff Update

Frank Vella will assume the sailing schedules coordinator postion between the sailing series organizers to the class and AMYA medias to form and publish the EC12 annual sailing schedule.

Reichard Kahle will assume the responsibilities for the Dixie Cup Series regatta schedule.

The Champions Regatta Series (CRS) is coordinated, as a group by; Chuck Luscomb for Northeast series, David Brawer for Colonial, Joe Walter for Florida along with Reichard at Dixie.

Gerry Cobley will develope a new reporting process and posting of the CRS which will be moved to the class site in a CRS section. This is live now but underconstruction and not official; it is only there to show you it is in progress. It will be completed before the new season.

Sailing Schedule

The process for the 2011 season has been started by the four series coordinators. This year the schedule will be fleshed out online at the class site so you and organizers can see the big picture come together. What you see there is not official till announced.

You should monitor this if you are a traveler and planning your fun. It will be ongoing now toward a full schedule by mid December. Local organizers of the annual events should send their events on a regatta scheduling form to the coordinator of their series. This is not to be formal but it really helps us distribute the information to Frank Vella building the schedule, the AMYA website and Model Yachting. This form is located on the 2011 Sailing Schedule page at the Class site.

The Champions Regatta will be in mid March and the 2011 Nationals the first week of November at Charleston. The 2012 Nationals will return to St. Augustine. Both NCRs will be Pro Team hosted by the class.

Florida will be phasing into a new sailing season that will be from October through May on the calendar. This is to provide the seasonal break during the summer months when there is no sailing.

As I understand, the 2011 season will end this coming May and the 2012 season begin next October. Naples will move their regatta to mid January, a month never used before. It is a long way to Naples and this will not be a Frozen Bun Run.

Regatta Catch Up

I was on the road for part of September and most of October and appologize for falling behind with these recognitions. We have had a record five regattas during this time and in all the Eastern Seaboard Regions. Some reports have not been posted to the class site yet but have been covered in the Regatta section of 12 Discussions. Here are the winners of these events. (hover to read captions)
