Greetings!

Class secretary

Congratulations to Baron Bremer, EC12 Class National Champion and to the Stowe group for a very successful event.
August was the anniversary month of the Class Newsletter now completing Volume 8 this year. This began as a text only email to pass information to the members in real time. We have just refreshed the look for a change and to improve readability.
We have added a sign up box, not for you but for those you may forward this issue. There is a forward link at the bottom you can use to introduce this service to new members of your group or to other friends interested in sailing.

The results of the NCR are reported below. It is not the end of the season though, there are 8 regattas left from Connecticut to southern Florida.
Here is another reminder about boat registrations. If you have received a new hull or commissioned boat and not received a registration card from the class, please contact Rick. This is unusual and needs a follow up for your benefit.

The first day was shortened by a loss of air. There were the seeding heats followed by three races. The top five were: Baron Bremer FL, Bruce Walton CT, Dave Ramos MD, David Brawner NJ and Jack Ward FL.
Day 2 came with wind over a long course. Some had issues unfortunate in racing but the cream began to rise. For those that followed the live online wrap up each day and the photos posted through links on 12 Discussions noted the expanse of the venue both ashore and on the water. Baron held the lead but by a thread over Dave Ramos. Brawner moved up but distant from the leaders. Bruce Walton slipped while Chuck Luscomb moved into 5th.
Day 3 was not over at the beginning of the day and not over at through the last races. It was close, very close. A study of first and second on the line scores told the results and part of the story. The photos showed a determined Baron Bremer who went out his way to stay out of trouble. Outstanding race management.
Acknowledgements: Our thanks and sincere appreciation.
To the Stowe group for their involvement up front and in the background for months and four days of perfect execution.
Charlie Berry and George Dean have teamed together for years as co-Race Directors. They are more that this; excellent management, organizing and administrating a very successful Class Nationals. Well Done!
To the scoring team; Rosemarie Fitzhugh, Suzan Letwinski and Katha Griswold for the diligence and long hours.
To Bruce Nourjian and his staff for the full hospitality of accommodations and on site feasts and activities at the Commodores Inn. He are a true innkeeper.
To Paul Fixx, who toiled with the computer for the score presentations, site management and communications.
To David Brawner, Ken Shaw and Bob Greer for the first live online production each evening with scores, slideshows and some rowdy chat.
See the daily line scores, Official Report and other links found on the Stowe Website.

Australian Class Logo
The Australians have been moving through an outlined plan to stir up interest in the EC12. This effort started last year and has gained the support of the class, the national organization and has now become a legal entity under the leadership of Peter Morris in Queensland. Peter attended the Worlds last year in Charleston where he discussed at length a plan that could lead to an international EC12 Class under the ISAF in time. The incorporation will now allow application to be independent in their own affairs from the national organization while promoting the class and model sailing in their country.

Their class raised money and ordered our US hull standard mold earlier in the year. This is due to be shipped shortly by RMD Marine. The US EC12 Class is supporting this effort and made a substantial donation to this expensive project. This will bring three countries under the same hull standard and is certain to revive the EC12 interest from when they first received a hull from the US in the 1970's.
We are following the process very carefully through communications with Peter to understand where our interests may be in the future of the class. The class members will be informed here, as the Australians move forward in this far reaching project.
Class Ragatta Pro Teams

The Nationals will be held Charleston in 2011 and St. Augustine in 2012. These will be hosted by the class and staffed by Class Pro Teams.

What is a Pro Team? They are class volunteers that form a Race Committee that can conduct a major event anywhere in the US with one local ground person as part of the team. They are generally good sailors, can organized and officiate the execution of the event. The Class CS assists the team but is not always part of the team. This will consist of a Race Director, Race Officer, Scorer, a Rules Judge (can sail), two mark observers and a local assistant.

Because we are going to use more of this in the near future, the class needs a list of volunteers to form a cadre from which these teams can be formed; especially in the Scorer's position. Please contact the CS to be placed on this list to form a pool of volunteers.

What will you be paid? Nothing. Will there be benefits on the site? Some. The RD and the RO should be able to do either. The Scorer generally works as a pair by their arrangement. Some work alone. Rules Judge needs to be knowledgeable of the RRS and the process.

Let's hear from you now, as to your interests. Please do not reply "I will do whatever you need." Be specific. Your support will be appreciated.

An Additional comment: Pro Teams are needed so we can use the better venues for the NCR. Some choices could be new venues we have not used because there is no local support. The locals at the more popular venues need the support of the class to lessen their load and allow the club to sail. This is why the class is asking for you to step up and help to produce great events.
