Mystic Seaport
This is a big event. If you are in the EC12 Class and have a J Class boat also, this is a huge event. Mystic is now a full four day event, gathering on Wednesday August 11 through Sunday afternoon. The J's will sail two full days Thursday and Friday. The 12's will sail two full days Saturday and Sunday. Each is a Regional event. The EC12 is part of the New England Champions Regatta series. We will have the North Lawn to ourselves in the quieter waters of the river over a long course. The launching docks are low to the water and the control area is six feet higher for a great view of the course. This too is a vacation location and a few days visiting the Seaport Museum and other attractions in Groton and New London will bring rewards along this New England seacoast. Deadline is Wednesday, August 4 |
2010 National Championship
The Commodores Inn remains Race Central. Owner and sailor Bruce Nourjian provides accommodations and activies specifically for the Class. The pond at the Inn has been a popular sailing destination for decades during the Summer. A limited number of rooms will be available to the Class. All planned activities will be held at the Inn. The event begins on Wednesday, September 8th with measuring and practice sailing at the new location and the pond at the Inn. It will end with an awards banquet at the Inn on Saturday evening. This is a vacation location so start planning and get your reservations and entry completed soon. |
Regatta Entry by Internet
By Rick West
One of the more frequent suggestions about Class function has been to simplify the regatta entry process. We are a very active Class and have about 180 members frequenting the 20 plus regattas each year. To many the chore of writing checks, filling out forms, addressing envelopes and affixing stamps has become drudgery in a digital world. This brief article is thrown out to organizers and hosts to our event schedule. What do you think?

Racing Rules of Sailing
By Rick West
Whether you are on a Sunday day cruise in San Francisco Bay, a J 24 regatta on the St. John's River in Jacksonville or rounding the windward mark at the pond in the James Island County Park at Charleston controlling an EC12, the rules of sailing apply. It is part of sailing and part of our recreation. It is not a matter of choice. When you take the helm of a sail boat, not knowing even the basic rules of sailing places your boat and those you are responsible for in harm's way.

Recommended addition to regatta Sailing Instructions
The following matter was discussed at length in June by Tom Germer, a knowledgeable rules teacher; Ken Morrison, a certified US Sailing Senior Judge and myself. Here is the issue and our recommendations.
