Gone with the Wind Atlanta was true to its regatta name. Air at the nice venue in Lawrenceville circulating 360 degrees from nil to 4 mph and changing within minutes. It was very patient racing and being in the open. Jerry Cobley of Raleigh NC did this well for a good win with his new boat for the season. John Bottensek FL was eight points behind with Chris Kakavas NC following with Tom Germer FL and Tony Shoaf of NC.
Southern hospitality was at its best by Skip and Linda Allen in their home Friday night with a small gathering and chat about the Rules. Saturday night they produced a Low Country mix of shrimp, sausage and potatoes, for the entire regatta group. |
38th Liberty Bell Regatta
It blew at Mount Laurel for B and heavy A rigs on Saturday with 60 degree wind shifts and vertical drafts at the windward north end of the pond. RD David Brawner used the entire length of the pond to present some very interesting racing. Sunday was a bit less but still breezy. Danny Thomas navigated the puzzling waters for an excellent win. Following were Harry Mote NJ, Mark Rinehart DE, Jake Leo CT and Rick West CA. David and Lisa hosted Saturday night at their home with burgers by Jake Leo at the grill. It was a fun and fine affair. |
Yankee Go Home
There were no Yankees in Naples for the Florida Regional 3b Championships. Dick Hedderick took the honors by 4 points over Baron Bremer. Nineteen boats showed for good conditions for 15 races in single fleet on Saturday. RD Jack Wubbe shortened the day on Sunday with only six races due to rain.
Alan Perkins, Al Dion and Gerhard Kelter filled out the podium with some very nice trophies. |
