RRS 2, 14, 44.1
This covers Fair Sailing, Avoiding Contact, and Taking a Penalty.
Refer to the rulebook in your toolbox.
Here are the questions: The intent of Rule 14 is there should be no contact. How is the boat that just ran over you yelling starboard to be handled in this rule? The captain knew a collision was imminent. Did she avoid?
If there was damage in the collision to the offending boat, should the one that just ran over you be subject to retirement from the heat?
I have been told that pressing these matters with the boat in the right away is futile. I think it should matter and be presented to the protest committee anyway to illuminate the practice and consider if this is fair play under Rule 2. Seriously sportsmanship?
This will be expanded and posted on 12 Discussions in the Rules section for further comments.

St. Petersburg Regatta
This is an annual event and this time the Region 3b Championship. Maybe it will be Region 7 next year. Baron Bremer navigated the start in the narrow cove of Freedom Lake, angled around the tree covered lawn and pavillion to windward and missed the Fish Feeder on the run better than all. And, once again a Champion. Lurking and in order were Alan Perkins, John Bottensek, Bob Greer and Tony Rieck.
The event was possible through the hard work and coodination by Bob and Dee Dudinsky of RMD Marine and the hosting supporters of the Golden Triangle group. | 38th Liberty Bell Regatta
David Brawner was probably at the first one and he always is the host including Saturday night. You can stay at his house, park in the driveway and use the washing machine. The shop door is never locked but don't bother the frogs. They are good friends and David talks to them daily.
It is a must show and there will be some racing too. Laurel Acres is a pond with two fountains, muddy water and noisy 50 pound geese with droppings so big you can trip on them. There is a steel sign post near the walking path with blood stains, people wanting to fish from shore into the start line and a constant parade of ladies jogging. The Red Roof is the place to stay with Manhattans at 1700. It is Yankeeland but Y'all Come. It is fun.

On the Road Again...
The Class office will close Sunday 4 April, as the Delta MYC Racing Vehicle heads east on Tuesday for EC12 and J Class sailing. I will be at the Atlanta event and the following weekend in Mount Laurel for Liberty Bell. The interim days will be at the East Coast EC12 Command Post in Graham NC to receive orders from Uncle Frank.
I will have 19 April for business at home then begin the Spring move to the Meadows Anchorage for the rest of the Summer till mid October.
The sailing season plan is 7 EC12 events, 2 J Class and 4 IOM regattas. So, many of you will see the black 1998 F150 that will be pushing 200k by the end of the year. She is wired for the Internet, Bluetooth, an inverter and a DC cooler this year. Life is good..."on the road again, like a band of gypsies we go down the highway. We're best of friends insisting that the world keep turning our way." (Willie Nelson) |
You and the NEWS
The EC12 Net News has reached a milestone with 601 subscribers. When we changed from the original simple email delivery to our current mail server Constant Contact, we had 490 names on our mailing list. Since December 05, 2008 we've added 170 to the list while removing 59 due to non-working email addresses.

Sailing Schedule Stuff
If you have not noticed the Regatta Stuff section of 12 Discussions, there is running information and comments about upcoming events at the top of the list. When organizers post about their scheduled event the moderator will make it "Sticky" at the top of the list till the event is over. Even our playgrounds need to be advertised. Just a hint...
On the calendar for April is Gone With The Wind Regatta in Atlanta at the Lawrenceville venue for a regional status event for the R3a on April 10.. Entries for this will be listed on the Q-List for the 2010 NCR. Liberty Bell in the following weekend and so is the Naples regatta, "Yankees Not Invited."
If this is not enough for you, there are four events in May. Two are regionals, 2 and 4.
Please check the Florida website for all information on regattas in that state.
On going...
Photo Contest We are going to do this again this year. Take your best images from anywhere about the EC12 and the people. Send them to Mike Cavanaugh at State College. The rules are simple and this should be fun. The prize is a free AMYA membership of your choosing or renewal. Check out this link for more information, contest and rules.
