Rieck Wins Season Opener
Palm Beach Gardens is always well run, attracts a large fleet and sails at a fine venue that is attractive and comfortable. It is always a good party for the season's opener in February.
This year spice was added with gale force winds and B rigs to the point of survival and some crafty tactics...stay clear of boats and endure. Tony, the popular Jacksonville resident Kiwi, rose from third on Saturday to an eight point win on Sunday with other Florida champions; Joe Walter, Alan Perkins, John Bottensek and Baron Bremer following closely. |
33rd America's Cup
If you are into real racing, this was a bore. It was over on the first race and confirmed on the second...Whoopie! |
Champions Regatta Series
The four series coordinators have unanimously agreed to two changes to the General Rules for the Champions Regatta. The changes are for the 2010 sailing season and thereafter.
The New England Cup group has been granted full status in the Series and will now be able to send a full compliment of 5 representatives to all Champions Regattas,
Since the event is a contest of the top skippers in each group, all the entrants must be from the top ten finishers in their respective groups. The rules for each individual group remain unchanged.
The new rules for the Champions Regatta Series are available at this LINK. |
New Venue
Class HQ is looking for a new venue for major events and two-day regattas. Desirably, this would be a large facility on a lake or reservoir centered geographically to the population of the Class. This could be from the Norfolk/Williamsburg area to below Raleigh-Durham but north of Charleston/Atlanta and extending into the Piedmont of North Carolina and Virginia and even eastern Tennessee. This should be near major routes of travel like Interstates 95, 26, 85, 75, 40 and 81. Something that would be within 500-600 mile distances for the Yankees and the Floridians is a prime consideration.
Lake Norman (pictured here) and Charleston have been big draws for the Class over the years. The former is still available but with little to no local contact now. Over the last two years several sites in Virginia were studied and did not work out. Somewhere in the area stated above there is a lake. This is to illuminate that place for study. It does not have to be related to a club or group. The Class has the ability to conduct and manage a big event with just one local contact person. This is a quest. |
