CVB Welcomes Interim Director Shelly Klebba

The Jefferson City Convention & Visitors Bureau is happy to welcome Shelley Klebba as Interim Executive Director. She took over the position on September 17th after predeccessor Steve Picker relocated to Florida. Klebba is no stranger to the CVB, having previously worked as Sales Manager for three years. In 2008, Klebba was instrumental in the creation of the Discover Jefferson City Foundation and has served on the board ever since. In her role as the Interim Director, she will serve as liaison between the Foundation and the CVB.

Klebba will continue to serve as the Interim Director until the position is filled permanently. She will work with the CVB Board to select her replacement. "I've worked for three different people in my time at the CVB," said Klebba. "I have some ideas on what worked and what didn't, and what to look for in an executive director."

Welcome aboard, Shelley!

SEC Pep Rally AL   SEC-JC Pep Rally Returns!

Sports fans from across the country have been traveling to mid-Missouri in droves since the University of Missouri-Columbia started their 2012 football season as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Jefferson City, located a short 30-minute drive from Columbia, has seen an increase in visitors on the weekends of Mizzou Tiger home games.

Jefferson City hotels are proud to be the host for out of state SEC fans and Missouri's state capital will roll out the red carpet in celebration of the Mizzou SEC game against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Jefferson City CVB, along with community supporters, will host another SEC-JC Pep Rally in historic Jefferson City on Friday, October 12th from 4-9pm. The Rally will also support the Lincoln University Blue Tigers and their Homecoming game against the University of Nebraska-Kearney. MU and Lincoln fans alike can look forward to a warm welcome from their Jefferson City hosts as all area sports fans gather to celebrate this extraordinary event. Guests will enjoy the pep rally atmosphere with sports celebrities, pep bands, cheerleaders, mascots and more in a street party unrivaled by the entire Mizzou community.

The SEC-JC Pep Rally will have something for everyone. A Temporary Open Container (TOC) District will be in effect for the pep rally. Visitors can show ID, purchase an over 21 wristband and event cup at participating bars and restaurants including Mortimer Kegleys, Chez Monet, Bones, Gumbo Bottoms and Spectators. Downtown cafes and restaurants will be open offering a variety of dining options along with eclectic shops, galleries and boutiques. An array of street performers and live musicians will line the streets of downtown, creating a vibrant festival atmosphere and providing entertainment for all ages. The Pep Rally will begin on the main stage at Madison/High at 5:30pm. Entertainment throughout the historic Downtown District will be from 4pm to 9pm (downtown streets will close at 5pm). Added transportation options will be available, giving out of town visitors at participating area hotels an easy way to get to and from the downtown Jefferson City festival district.

 SEC-JC Pep Rally Lincoln Band

"We received such positive feedback regarding our last SEC-JC Pep Rally for the MU-GA game that we felt we had to try this again for Alabama, the defending college football National Champions currently ranked #1 in the nation," said Jefferson City Convention & Visitors Bureau sports manager Chris Wilson. "Alabama fans and Lincoln Alumni are sure to enjoy the festival district and the organized Pep Rally, which will feature the Marching Musical Storm, Lincoln's incredibly entertaining pep band."

"Jefferson City will be booming on this weekend between Lincoln University's Homecoming and the Alabama fans in town for the Mizzou game. We felt this would be a great opportunity to showcase our historic downtown by bringing in as many people as we can for this unique event," said Ryan Winkler, Jefferson City Convention & Visitors Bureau communications manager.

Inside the Walls Festival RecapInside the Walls 2012

For three days in September visitors attended the Inside the Walls Festival at the Missouri State Penitentiary (MSP). Held in honor of the 176th Anniversary of MSP, the event included a Beer & Wine Garden in the Lafayette Street cul-de-sac which featured live music from mid-Missouri bands. Several bands incorporated Johnny Cash tunes into their lineups and hundreds of people enjoyed listening to music while consuming food & adult beverages all within view of the Missouri River and the Missouri State Penitentiary.

People of all ages traveled in to enjoy the family-friendly activities including the Jefferson City Parks & Recreation free movie showing in A-Hall and the Missouri River Regional Library's crafts and games in the Upper Yard. Missouri State Penitentiary tours were sold out throughout the weekend and several tour guides provided a free seminar which was enjoyed by many.

Jefferson City Outdoors sponsored an entirely new event. The Prison Break Obstacle Course was a five-mile race commencing in the dungeon of A-Hall and ending at Prison Brews. More than 170 people from all across Missouri participated in the challenging course and had a great time "escaping" from prison, climbing through mud pits and sliding down slip'n'slides. We are already looking forward to next year's race!

Thank you so much to all of the participating sponsors (see entire list here) and to all of the attendees!

The Big Reveal: New CVB Headshots

You can't help but be charmed by the beauty of the Missouri State Capitol's interior rotunda, or by the beauty of Jennifer Nelp, CVB Office Manager. For Jennifer's photo session, Anthony Jinson set-up lighting & flash equipment just as the 2012 Missouri Legislative Session was wrapping up. The energy in the Capitol was tangible on that day, but even the busiest of people couldn't help but stop to take in a bit of the action and inquire as to why we were there with a camera crew and who was the girl on the other side of the lens? We think Jennifer shines in one of Jefferson City's favorite attractions!
